After the shocking trade that sent Luka Doncic to the Los Angeles Lakers, the Slovenian star has done nothing but shine. He’s adapted quickly and has been showing off his skills alongside new teammates likeLeBron James and Austin Reaves. The Lakers are currently in Round 1 of the NBA playoffs, facing the Minnesota Timberwolves in a series that’s tied 1-1.
In Game 2, Luka led all scorers with 31 points, 12 rebounds, and 9 assists. On a key play, he spontaneously imitatedStephen Curry. Doncic didn’t just mirror Curry’s scoring dominance, he also copied one of Steph’s signature celebrations, which left the Lakers bench demanding an explanation. What was Luka thinking when he mimicked the Warriors star? Did he pull it off or fall short?
Luka Doncic ‘turns into’ Stephen Curry
The Slovenian guard appears to have taken his game to the next level since joining the Lakers. He looks leaner than he did with the Dallas Mavericks, looser, and more confident, playing a key role alongside LeBron and Austin to help get the Lakers into the playoffs. Luka is averaging 28 points and 35 minutes per game since suiting up in purple and gold.
Doncic has also improved his three-point shooting since joining the Lakers, jumping from 35% to 38%. It seems like he’s trying to get closer to Steph’s long range shooting prowess. But now, after Game 2 of the first-round playoff series against the Timberwolves, Luka’s celebration after a deep three had the Lakers bench speechless and full of questions. The whole moment was captured on video.
This is a bolder version of Luka, one who’s not afraid to channel Steph Curry even if his teammates aren’t quite sure what to make of it. But at the end of the day, all that really matters is making the shots, whether from three or inside the arc, to help push the Lakers toward victory.
While Luka and the Lakers are deep in playoff action, the Dallas Mavericks didn’t even make it. The team’s general manager even had to publicly admit that he hadn’t fully understood how much Doncic meant to Mavericks fans.
When and where to watch Game 3
