It’s been a whirlwind few weeks for Shedeur Sanders, and the pressure isn’t easing up. Just days after Colorado retired his jersey in a moment of celebration, questions about his NFL readiness have taken over the spotlight.
Despite being the son of Hall of Famer Deion “Coach Prime” Sanders, Shedeur’s path to the draft has been anything but predictable.
Sanders put up elite numbers in his final season at Colorado and climbed into the national spotlight with his sharp accuracy and cool-headed decision-making. But even with those stats and pedigree, his draft stock has wavered wildly-some experts have him going as high as the third pick, while others think he might slide deep into the first round or even beyond.
From family pride to harsh criticism
The draft buzz hasn’t all been glowing. A recent NFL.com report quoted an anonymous assistant coach who torched Shedeur’s character, calling him “entitled,” and citing his interviews as the “worst” they’d ever seen.
The same coach took issue with Sanders’ mechanics, body language, and leadership. Others have started to compare him unfavorably to prospects like Jalen Milroe and Jaxson Dart.
But Shedeur has never been short on support-especially from his mother, Pilar Sanders. She’s fired back at critics with passion, calling her son “UNMATCHED, UNDENIABLE, UNSTOPPABLE” in a recent post while promoting a Gatorade video featuring Shedeur.
She emphasized his elite football IQ and calm under pressure, claiming that no one in this draft class matches his mental toughness or playmaking precision.
As for NFL teams, names like the Giants, Browns, Steelers, and Saints keep popping up. Yet, no team has emerged as a clear front-runner. The uncertainty only adds to the drama as draft day nears.
Sanders is, without question, one of the most polarizing players in this year’s class. His talent is undeniable-but so is the scrutiny. As the countdown ticks toward his NFL destination, all eyes will be on where the rollercoaster stops. Will it be redemption or more doubt? Either way, the Shedeur Sanders story is far from over.
