The Golden State Warriors have suffered a major blow ahead of their clash with the Houston Rockets on April 26 with the news that Jimmy Butler is out of action for Game 3.
The 35-year-old sustained a pelvic contusion during the Game 2 defeat (109-94) on Thursday and subsequently left the game early, having posted just eight minutes of action at the Toyota Center.
Now the veteran forward, who previously played for the Miami Heat, is likely to be out of commission for the pivotal clash on April 26 as the Warriors bid to take the lead of the series; as per Shams Charania.
“Golden State’s Jimmy Butler has been diagnosed with a deep glute muscle contusion,” Charania, the lead NBA insider, said. “And his status for Game 3 against the Houston Rockets is in serious jeopardy, league sources tell ESPN.
“This is best case because MRI showed Butler avoided any fracture or structural damage.”
The small forward has averaged 17.5 points, 5.4 assists and 5.4 rebounds per game in his debut year at the Chase Center, and has complimented Steph Curry perfectly thus far.
His addition has contributed to the 37-year-old’s resurgence in the NBA MVP conversations with Curry putting up 24.5 points, six assists and 4.4 rebounds per game. Together, the pair led the Warriors to seventh in the Western Conference with 48 wins.
