In the early hours of the day, the human body has a greater resistance to insulin, which makes it difficult to manage blood sugar, something that can get worse if you eat some foods with high glycemic levels, something that can be transferred to some fruits. Fruit is very healthy, but you have to be very careful and watch out when choosing one for breakfast. Here are some types of fruit you should avoid eating first thing in the morning.

In Spain, we always tend to drink orange juice first thing in the morning, but when the fruit is juiced, its fiber is lost, which is key to slowing down the absorption of sugar. This means that the juice enters quickly into the bloodstream, causing sugar spikes. In this way, experts recommend that whole fruit should always be consumed first thing in the morning.
The key is to opt for fruits that have a low glycemic index and are absorbed slowly. The most recommended fruits to eat at breakfast time and that do not have high glycemic peaks are: fresh plums (they contain sorbitol); grapefruit (rich in vitamin C, flavonoids and fiber); apple (speeds up digestion); blueberries and strawberries (for their antioxidants); oranges, always whole as we said before; and kiwi.

On the other hand, very ripe bananas, pineapple, raisins and melon have a very high glycemic index, so experts recommend consuming them at other times of the day when the body has already activated the metabolism and insulin is working at 100%.
