Veterans receiving monthly VA disability paymentsstarted 2025 with a bit of good news – a 2.5% cost-of-living raise. While the boost helps, many are focused on a more immediate question: when exactly will the May payments arrive?
The VA follows a pretty straightforward system. Disability benefits for a given month usually land on the first business day of the following month. If that day happens to be a weekend or federal holiday, the VA moves up the payment to the last business day of the previous month.

For May 2025 benefits, that means the money will hit accounts on Friday, May 30, 2025.

Breaking down the full 2025 payment schedule
The VA’s full 2025 schedule shows consistent patterns: for example, January’s benefits were paid on January 31, and April’s were processed on May 1. Looking ahead, June payments will drop on July 1. This regular rhythm makes it easier for veterans to plan their monthly budgets.
Veterans who qualify for VA disability compensation receive tax-free monthly payments, with amounts ranging from about $165 to over $3,600 depending on their disability rating, according to Military.com.
It’s not just veterans who are covered. The VA also pays tax-free monthly benefits like Dependency and Indemnity Compensation (DIC) for eligible surviving family members, Veterans and Survivors Pension payments for low-income families, and Special Monthly Compensation (SMC) for veterans with severe service-connected injuries.
For those who need extra help with everyday activities, Aid and Attendance and Housebound benefits are also available, offering additional financial support to cover in-home care, nursing homes, or assisted living costs.
