Could Bryce James link up with LeBron and Bronny at the Los Angeles Lakers? An insider hints the 40-year-old four-time NBA champion might want to tick that off his bucket list before retiring.
LeBron and his eldest child made history against the Minnesota Timberwolves in October 2024 by becoming the first father-son duo to play together in an official game, realizing one of the basketball legend’s lifelong dreams.
Now could he be poised to push to hang around in the sport for a few more years longer for the chance to play alongside Bryce, who is currently penned to the Arizona Wildcats in the NCAA for 2025/26?
Rachel Nichols believes that could be the plan of the ex-Cleveland Cavalier and Miami Heat player, adding it could hold the key to the future of LeBron in the NBA as he enters his age 41 year.
“You’ve got his younger son Bryce, who is going to Arizona next year,” Nichols told The Herd with Colin Cowherd. “And then potentially in the league the next year.
“There’s a lot of people who think he’s better than Bronny was at that age and maybe he’s gonna stick around.
“What if because Luka’s on this team, LeBron can extend his career a few years? What if he gets two more?”
How is Luka Doncic involved?
Heading back 10 months ago, many would have banked on Luka Doncic committing his entire career to the Dallas Mavericks after leading them to the NBA Finals as the Slovenian’s love affair at the American Airlines Center showed no signs of slowing down.
However, in one of the most shocking trades in NBA history, the 26-year-old now finds himself pulling on the purple and gold at the Crypto.com Arena after being sent to the Lakers in exchange for Anthony Davis.
Fans still wonder what Nico Harrison, the Mavericks general manager, was thinking when he agreed to it but all the same, Doncic is now a Laker and has transitioned nicely to life in California, putting up averages of 28.2 points, 8.1 rebounds and 7.5 assists.
But his impact extends well beyond simply adding points as he also bolsters LeBron‘s game by taking some of the pressure off the Lakers’ marquee man, who has been the focal point of the franchise for years.
LeBron has been afforded extra rest minutes and days, and, as Nichols alluded to, this could play a key role in extending his career by a few more seasons by taking some impact away from those ageing knees and tiring muscles.
So it remains to be seen if the James trio will hit the NBA court at the same time, but with LeBron’s determination unquestioned and Bryce close to being able to enter the draft already, the moment might be more realistic than many may think.
