UFC makes its return to Kansas City at T-Mobile Center, after pausing a week for the Easter holiday. The preliminary UFC fight card is expected to get underway around 6 p.m. ET, with the main card starting around 9 p.m. ET. Machado Garry is a former Cage Warriors Fighting Championship winner, while Prates is a four-time Performance of the Night winner.

Machado Garry is a -160 favorite (risk $160 to win $100), while Prates is priced at +130 (risk $100 to win $130) in the latest UFC Fight Night: Machado Garry vs. Prates odds, with that fight listed at -200 not to go the distance. Also on the main card, light heavyweight fighters take the spotlight when Anthony Smith (+340) takes on Zhang Mingyang (-450). Before making any UFC Fight Night: Machado Garry vs. Prates picks, make sure you see the MMA predictions and betting advice from SportsLine expert Daniel Vithlani.

Vithlani is a highly-analytical UFC bettor who has been a consistent winner for SportsLine members since making his debut in January 2023 with a 5-0 record for UFC 283. In fact, he’s up over $1,500 on his UFC main-card sports betting picks.

Now, Vithlani has studied Ian Machado Garry vs. Carlos Prates from every angle and revealed his top betting picks and best bets.

Machado Garry vs. Prates preview

Machado Garry, 27, is coming off his first loss as a professional. At UFC 310 in December, he lost a unanimous decision to Shavkat Rakhmonov in a UFC welterweight title eliminator. He made his welterweight debut in February 2019, when he earned a unanimous decision over James Sheehan at Cage Warriors 101. In June 2021, he defeated Jack Grant for the Cage Warriors welterweight championship by unanimous decision.

He then joined UFC, where he ran his record to 15-0 after a unanimous decision over Michael Page at UFC 303 in June 2024. He has registered seven wins by knockout, one by submission and seven by decision. He earned Performance of the Night honors with a knockout of Daniel Rodriguez at UFC on ABC: Rozenstruik vs. Almeida on May 13, 2023. Check out SportsLine to see his picks and analysis.

Prates, 31, has had a lot of success in his career, which began in Brazil. He made his lightweight debut with a knockout of Sergio Vieira at Max Flight 11 on March 17, 2012. After going 2-1, he made his featherweight debut with a major decision over Rodrigo Haro at Detonic Fight 2 in May 2013. He returned to lightweight to mixed success, going 2-3, before making his welterweight debut at Full Metal Dojo 8 on Jan. 10, 2016, where he won by submission over Yousef Wehbe.

In September 2022, he knocked out Charles de Oliveira Santos to win the vacant Standout Fighting Tournament 37 welterweight championship. He finally joined UFC in February 2024, and has since registered four consecutive Performance of the Night honors. In 27 professional matches, Prates is 21-6 with 16 wins by knockout, three by submission and two by decision. You can only see his picks and analysis at SportsLine

UFC Fight Night: Machado Garry vs. Prates predictions

We’ll reveal one of Vithlani’s UFC Fight Night: Machado Garry vs. Prates selections here: Roberto Romero (-105 at DraftKings Sportsbook) to defeat Timothy Cuamba (-115) in a featherweight matchup on the preliminary card.

“This should be a fun back-and-forth affair,” Vithlani told SportsLine. “Romero made his UFC debut on short notice against hard-nosed scrapper David Onama. Despite losing each round, he impressed me with his toughness and relentlessness. Romero’s inside low kicks, heavy forward pressure and overhand punches were giving Onama trouble early. I feel Romero is the more dangerous fighter in this matchup and could have the bigger moments. Cuamba is a crafty striker with slick movement. He is also a strong wrestler and could look to mix his game up if Romero’s pressure is leading the dance. Both fighters have strong cardio and durability, so I expect a competitive affair. Ultimately, I see Romero’s aggression winning out.” See who else to back here.

UFC Fight Night: Machado Garry vs. Prates main fight card, odds

Vithlani has strong picks for Machado Garry vs. Prates and other bouts on the UFC Fight Night: Machado Garry vs. Prates card. He’s also backing a fighter who “puts tremendous pressure on his opponents” to earn a massive win. He’s sharing who it is only at SportsLine.

Fantasy football waiver wire pickups: NFL Week 8

Another week of the 2025 NFL season is just about in the books. Here are the players you should be targeting in your fantasy football leagues, including options for smaller leagues and deeper leagues, as well as players to avoid. Jump to a position group: QB | RB | WR | TE QUARTERBACK Jaxson Dart, New York Giants (Rostered in 43.3% of leagues on ESPN) League Size: 10 Time Frame: Week 8, Short Term, Long Term Dart has started the past four games for the Giants, averaging 23.0 fantasy points per game during that stretch (fourth best among quarterbacks). He was aided by his rushing ability in his first three starts, gaining at least 50 rushing yards in each. This past week, he faced a Denver Broncos defense that has usually been great at slowing quarterbacks. However, Dart completed 15 […]

4 Takeaways From the Blue Jays’ ALCS Game 6 Win Over the Mariners

While the National League Championship Series was decided with the minimum, the AL counterpart will go the maximum. With a chance to reach the World Series for the first time in their franchise’s history Sunday night in Toronto, the Mariners were stifled in Game 6 of the ALCS by a 22-year-old rookie starter who had other ideas in a 6-2 Blue Jays win, setting up a winner-take-all Game 7 on Monday night. Here are my takeaways: 1. With the season on the line, Jays’ rookie wins the battle The last time Trey Yesavage and Logan Gilbert faced off in Game 2, neither left with an impressive line. Yesavage was unable to baffle Blue Jays hitters with his splitter the way he did against the Yankees in the American League Division Series, while Gilbert looked rusty coming off just two days of rest after being […]

Dak Prescott Is Playing Like an MVP, and the Cowboys Defense Finally Did Its Part

ARLINGTON, Texas - What if your quarterback has an MVP-caliber season, but your defense is so bad you can't even make the playoffs? Call it the Joe Burrow effect. It was one thing when the Cowboys scored 40 and managed only a tie against the Packers, another when they scored 27 and still lost to the Panthers. So, this past week, in defensive meetings, the message was clear and urgent for Dallas players: Don't let an amazing season by Dak Prescott get buried in high-scoring losses."We talk about it all the time: When you've got an offense like this, that's a championship offense, and we don't want to let that go to waste," defensive tackle Kenny Clark said. "I'm just being real. We have to keep improving and keep stepping up, because they're balling. They're putting up points, and you saw today, […]

NFL Week 7 Team of the Week: Jalen Hurts and His Star Receiver Make the Cut

Each week, we’ll offer up the very best of the NFL for a given week, kind of like the fantasy football team you wished you had. We’ll pick one quarterback, two running backs, two receivers and a tight end – OK, this is sounding a lot like a super-hindsight fantasy football team – as a way to look back on the weekend that was.A star running back returns to the team, while the quarterback finally got his passing game going to the point that one of his receivers ended up on this list with him.I hear you already, pointing out that Bo Nix had four total touchdowns in the fourth quarter alone as part of a remarkable comeback win for the Broncos. Hurts delivered his best performance of the season, still mistake-free but remarkably efficient by going 19-for-23 for 326 yards […]

Players mock, boosters talk and a $55 million decision looms at Florida State

What's happening at Florida State is a perfect illustration of how fluid the idea of job security is in college football's new era.  The Seminoles were an early-season darling after a convincing Week 1 win over Alabama and raced off to a 3-0 start -- exactly what coach Mike Norvell needed coming off a 2-10 2024 campaign.  Then came an overtime loss to Virginia. Then Miami. Then Pittsburgh. At that point, the heat had turned up to about medium on Norvell -- no immediate firing, but perhaps in danger after this season if all hell broke loose, and if nothing else the lead face of all 2026 hot seat content.  But now things are at a scalding temperature. In the early hours of Sunday morning, on the East Coast at least, Florida State lost 20-13 to lowly Stanford, a game […]
