Crystal Palace have been relegated from the Women’s Super League following their 7-1 defeat to West Ham United.
The defeat left them an insurmountable seven points behind 11th-place Aston Villa with two games remaining and ensures they will return to the Championship after just one season in the top flight.

Sunday’s defeat to West Ham saw Shekiera Martinez score four goals for the visitors alongside Viviane Asseyi finding the net and Emma Harries scoring twice, with Katie Stengel getting a consolation for Palace.
Palace were promoted to the WSL for the first time in their history last season but have won only two of their 20 league games this term and collected just nine points.
They beat Leicester City in their third league outing of the season but then embarked on a 12-game winless run, picking up just three points between October 13 and March 2.
Head coach Laura Kaminski, who had led the club to promotion the previous season, was dismissed in February and Leif Smerud was appointed her successor.
Palace secured a vital 3-1 win over Aston Villa in March to move just one point behind their relegation rivals and put themselves in contention to survive the drop. However, Villa subsequently secured late victories over Tottenham Hotspur and Liverpool to pull clear of Palace.
Palace’s relegation means that, for a second season in a row, the team promoted to the WSL has been relegated straight back to the Championship. Bristol City similarly dropped back to the second tier last term after picking up just one win in the WSL.
