Die Halbfinals in Champions League und Europa League steigen im Fußball ohne deutsche Beteiligung. Anders im Handball!
Da haben gleich fünf deutsche Klubs die Chance, sich für das Final4 zu qualifizieren und am Ende sogar einen Titel zu feiern. Obendrein steigen die Finalturniere in beiden Wettbewerben daheim in Deutschland. Die vier besten Teams der European League messen sich am 24. und 25. Mai in der Hamburger Barclays Arena, die vier besten Teams der Champions League am 14. und 15. Juni in der Kölner Lanxess Arena. Wenn das nichts ist!
Die heißen Entscheidungen fallen noch in dieser Woche. Mit sehr guten bis etwas weniger guten Ausgangspositionen für unsere Klubs.

Den Auftakt macht Rekordmeister THW Kiel, der am Dienstag (18.45 Uhr) im Rückspiel gegen Franzosen-Klub Limoges Handball ran muss. Trainer Filip Jicha kündigte bereits an: „Wir werden bereit sein, Energie haben und uns mit unseren Fans den Traum von Hamburg erfüllen”.

Zwei Stunden später startet die SG Flensburg-Handewitt daheim gegen die Dänen von GOG Handbold durch – mit einem Drei-Tore-Vorsprung. Das Hinspiel endete für den Titelverteidiger 29:26. Geschäftsführer Holger Glandorf warnt: „Wir kennen ja den Handball, das ist gar nix. Wir freuen uns sehr auf die zweite Hälfte in Flensburg.“

Linksaußen Tim Freihöfer: „Wer sich im Hinspiel so eine Ausgangslage erarbeitet, der fährt dorthin, um ins Final4 einzuziehen. Wir wollen auch das zweite Spiel gewinnen. Dann wären wir in Köln und das ist das Ziel.”

Zum Schluss wird Meister SC Magdeburg am Donnerstag in Veszprem (Ungarn) versuchen, aus dem 26:26 noch was Besseres zu machen. Trainer Bennet Wiegert zum Final4: „Das ist für jeden Handballer ein riesiges Ziel. Für mich ist es das größte Vereinshandballturnier der Welt. Wer da einmal dabei war, möchte wieder vor dieser Kulisse spielen.“
