In the end, the Cleveland Browns managed to select Shedeur Sanders in the fifth round of the 2025 NFL Draft, a dramatic story that stole all the attention during the days the event unfolded in Green Bay, Wisconsin. Now, however, it’s time to shift focus to plans ahead of the season’s start.
Shedeur Sanders starts spending big money at a huge party
Against this backdrop, the former Colorado Buffaloes quarterback has received high praise, already being compared to a seasoned NFL player who was recently a candidate for MVP.
Shedeur Sanders compared to Jared Goff
After being picked in the fifth round, at the 144th overall spot, Shedeur Sanders received a particularly intriguing comparison-one that should pique Cleveland’s interest. If he reaches this level, it could mean the Browns have found their franchise quarterback.
ESPN‘s Matt Miller, in his pro comparison, likened Shedeur to Jared Goff, who finished fifth in the NFL MVP voting last season, though for much of the year, he was a serious contender for the award.
Goff delivered an impressive 2024 season, throwing for 4,629 yards, 37 touchdowns, and just 12 interceptions, with a 72.4% completion rate and a passer rating of 111.8, earning him his fourth Pro Bowl nod.
Since entering the NFL as the first overall pick in 2016 with the Los Angeles Rams, Goff has surpassed 30 touchdown passes in three seasons, including each of the last two. He also led the Rams to a Super Bowl appearance in the 2018-19 season.
While not always considered among the elite quarterbacks, Goff has solidified himself as a franchise quarterback with a notably underrated track record in the league.
Now, it remains to be seen whether Shedeur Sanders can reach that same level with the Browns.
Particularly striking was the dramatic fall of Shedeur Sanders’ draft stock, which plummeted through the rounds of the 2025 NFL Draft, even though numerous analysts and scouts had widely regarded him as the second-best quarterback prospect in his class, trailing only behind the top-tier talent at the position.
