NFL multa Falcons e coordenador em quase R$ 2 milhões por trote simulando escolha de filho de lenda no Draft

A NFL aplicou uma multa de US$ 250 mil (equivalente a R$ 1,4 milhão na cotação atual) ao Atlanta Falcons e de US$ 100 mil (aproximadamente R$ 568 mil) ao coordenador defensivo Jeff Ulbrich, nesta quarta-feira, pelo vazamento do número de telefone de Shedeur Sanders antes do Draft de 2025, de acordo com uma fonte próxima à liga, em informações ao The Athletic. As punições foram motivadas pela falha da equipe em proteger dados confidenciais repassados previamente à organização.

Quatro dias após Shedeur Sanders receber uma ligação de trote de um número desconhecido na segunda noite do Draft, Jax Ulbrich — filho do coordenador defensivo Jeff Ulbrich — admitiu ter sido a pessoa que obteve e compartilhou o número do telefone exclusivo que Sanders usava para o evento. O aparelho havia sido entregue a Sanders na quinta-feira, e o número foi compartilhado apenas com a NFL e as equipes, o que levou a liga a abrir uma investigação. Em um vídeo que circulou nas redes sociais, Jax aparece ao lado da pessoa que fez a ligação para Sanders.

Os Falcons divulgaram um comunicado no domingo pedindo desculpas a Shedeur Sanders.

“No início da semana, Jax Ulbrich, filho de 21 anos do coordenador defensivo Jeff Ulbrich, teve acesso acidental ao número de telefone de contato do Draft de Shedeur Sanders em um iPad desbloqueado enquanto visitava a casa dos pais, e anotou o número para fazer uma ligação de trote posteriormente”, disse o time em nota oficial. “Jeff Ulbrich não tinha conhecimento da exposição das informações nem de qualquer parte do trote, sendo informado apenas depois dos acontecimentos. O Atlanta Falcons não tolera esse tipo de comportamento e pede sinceras desculpas a Shedeur Sanders e sua família, com quem já entramos em contato para pedir desculpas, além de facilitar um pedido de desculpas direto de Jax à família Sanders.”

Jax também publicou um pedido de desculpas em sua conta no Instagram:

“Na noite de sexta-feira, cometi um erro gravíssimo. Shedeur, o que eu fiz foi totalmente imperdoável, constrangedor e vergonhoso. Sinto muito por ter tirado o brilho do seu momento — foi um ato egoísta e imaturo”, escreveu Jax. “Jamais poderia imaginar como é estar prestes a comemorar um dos maiores momentos da sua vida, e eu cometi um erro terrível que interferiu nisso.

Obrigado por atender minha ligação mais cedo. Espero que um dia você consiga encontrar em seu coração o perdão por isso”, completou.

De acordo com Adam Schefter, da ESPN, a NFL ainda está investigando possíveis trotes feitos a outros prospectos durante a semana do Draft, mas nenhum deles tem relação com os Falcons ou com Shedeur Sanders.

Após o anúncio das multas, os Falcons divulgaram um comunicado afirmando que aceitam a punição aplicada pela liga. A organização também informou que Jeff Ulbrich e sua família irão colaborar com o time participando de ações comunitárias relacionadas ao ocorrido.

Durante sua coletiva de apresentação no Cleveland Browns, Shedeur Sanders minimizou o trote telefônico e evitou dar muita importância ao episódio.

“Isso não teve muito impacto em mim, foi tipo… ‘OK’”, disse Sanders. “Eu não me alimento de negatividade, não dou atenção pra esse tipo de coisa. Dá pra ver minha reação no vídeo do Deion Jr. no YouTube. É isso. Claro que foi uma atitude infantil, mas todo mundo faz coisas infantis de vez em quando.”

Relembre a ligação

Shedeur Sanders estava aguardando uma ligação — mas não a que recebeu na noite de sexta-feira.

Ele assistia ao Draft da NFL ao lado de um pequeno grupo, composto principalmente por familiares, na casa de seu pai, Deion Sanders, nos arredores de Dallas, quando seu telefone tocou, poucos minutos antes do New Orleans Saints anunciar sua escolha de número 40.

“Aqui é o Mickey Loomis, general manager dos Saints. A espera foi longa, cara. Vamos te escolher na nossa próxima pick”, disse o autor do trote. A ligação foi registrada em vídeo pelo canal Well Off Media, no YouTube, administrado por Deion Sanders Jr., irmão mais velho de Shedeur.

“Sim, senhor. Vamos fazer história”, respondeu Shedeur.

“Mas você vai ter que esperar mais um pouco, cara. Desculpa aí”, disse o troteiro antes de desligar.

Shedeur ficou principalmente confuso, já que o telefone em que recebeu a ligação havia sido entregue no dia anterior, e o número só tinha sido compartilhado com equipes da NFL.

“Ninguém tem esse número, só os treinadores, e é justamente por esse motivo. Por que ficar irritado? Eles querem que você tenha uma reação específica a isso”, disse Shedeur ao seu irmão no vídeo. “Eles querem que você se sinta mal. Mas eu não estou nem aí.”

Alguns minutos depois, o New Orleans Saints fez sua escolha real, selecionando o quarterback de Louisville, Tyler Shough, com a 40ª escolha.

Deion Sanders, assistindo do sofá fora de sua casa, balançou a cabeça.

“Uau”, disse ele. “Uau.”
