WATCH: Red Sox DH Rafael Devers finally picks up first hit after historically bad start to 2025 season

Getty Images Rafael Devers is finally on the board. Wednesday night, the Red Sox's third baseman-turned-DH picked up his first base hit of the new season following a nightmarish 0 for 21 start. He roped an RBI double to right field in the fifth inning against Orioles righty Zach Eflin for his first hit. Devers singled through the left side of the infield for his second hit of 2025 later in the game. Here is Devers' first hit of the new year. This came in his 26th plate appearances after factoring in his four walks:The 0 for 21 to start the season is not particularly relevant, historically. There have been plenty of longer 0-fors to begin a new season. What makes Devers' 0 for 21 especially ghastly is that he struck out 15 times, including at least three times in four […]

Giants look the part of a ‘good team’ in uniquely successful opening road trip

On Wednesday, the Giants played their sloppiest game of the 2025 regular season. The defense still hasn’t committed an error this season, but there were two plays in the bottom of the fifth inning that could have been described as “error-adjacent.” There were two walks sprinkled around those misplays, and all eight of the balls were easy takes. All of that sloppiness set up a bases-loaded, nobody out situation for one of the best hitters in baseball. For a couple of sloppy cherries on top, the Giants also had two pitch-clock violations in the following inning, one at the plate and one on the mound.AdvertisementThe Giants won the game 6-3. They swept the Astros and completed a 5-1 road trip, and they’re off to their best start in over a decade. The last time they started the season with a […]

Mandatory Credit: Brad Penner-Imagn Images For opponents Villanova and Southern California, facing off in Thursday's quarterfinal round of the inaugural College Basketball Crown in Las Vegas, the opening-round of the tournament provided opportunities in the unknown. For Villanova (20-14), interim coach Mike Nardi capitalized on the opportunity to score his first career head-coaching win as he oversees the program's transition from Kyle Neptune to the incoming Kevin Willard. "This is a very special place that means a lot to a lot of people," Nardi said following Villanova's 85-64 blowout of Colorado on Tuesday, via the university athletic website. "I've grown up here as a student, as a man […]

Rockets’ Dillon Brooks hit with technical foul for kick to the groin vs. Jazz, now facing suspension

Getty Images Houston Rockets guard Dillon Brooks has reached the suspension limit for technical fouls after picking up his 16th of the season on Wednesday for kicking Utah Jazz guard Collin Sexton in the groin. Just a few minutes into the game, Brooks posted Sexton up on the block and tried to spin into a turnaround jumper. Sexton had other ideas, however, and knocked the ball away as Brooks was going up. After losing the ball, Brooks flailed his limbs, in a theatrical manner to try and draw a foul. Instead, he kicked the ball and then Sexton. The result was a double whammy: a turnover for the kicked ball violation and a technical for the unnecessary contact to Sexton.  Brooks is never hesitant to voice his opinion to the officials or mix it up with opposing players -- he was ejected […]

Mandatory Credit: Daniel Kucin Jr.-Imagn Images Garrett Crochet pitched eight shutout innings, and the Boston Red Sox beat the host Baltimore Orioles 3-0 to snap a four-game losing streak Wednesday night. Trevor Story homered and had three hits -- more than he had all season entering the game -- and Rafael Devers ended a horrid season-beginning slump with an RBI double and later added a single. Devers broke a 0-for-21 stretch. Crochet (1-0), a left-hander, allowed four hits and one walk while striking out eight.

— Fica amargo pelas circunstâncias do jogo. Não conseguimos subir as linhas. Não é desculpa, mas é verdade. Muitos jogadores pedindo oxigênio no intervalo.
