Nach dem spektakulären 4:3-Sieg nach Verlängerung gegen den FC Barcelona wurde der Schweizer zum „Man of the Match“ gewählt. Außergewöhnlich! Aber verdient. Sein Highlight im Halbfinal-Rückspiel: In der 57. Minute parierte er bei einem Barça-Konter gegen den frei vor ihm stehenden Eric Garcia – magisch!

Sommer war im Januar 2023 für 9 Mio. Euro zum FC Bayern gekommen, spielte für den verletzten Manuel Neuer, der sich nach einem Ski-Unfall das Schien- und Wadenbein gebrochen hatte. Sommer bekam einen Vertrag bis Juni 2025 – 25 Pflichtspiele und 31 Gegentore später ließen die Münchner den Torwart aber schon wieder für 6,9 Millionen Euro nach Mailand ziehen. Er war wohl nicht gut genug für die Bayern-Bosse. Reservist nach Neuers Heilung wollte Sommer auch nicht sein.

Ex-Nationalspieler und Ex-Bayern-Profi Didi Hamann sagt bei Sky Austria: Er ist jetzt im Champions-League-Finale. Das ist für mich die Antwort eines Champions. Der kritisiert wird, der sagt: ‚Okay, ich schaue, dass ich die Leute eines Besseren belehre‘. Und das hat er gemacht, weil er dieses Jahr herausragend gehalten hat, in der letzten Runde schon super gehalten gegen Bayern, heute wieder. Und wenn’s dumm geht, dann wird er jetzt Meister bei Inter und wird Champions-League-Sieger – und die Bayern schauen in die Röhre.“
Was Hamann sicher noch in Erinnerung hat: Er selbst gehörte seinerzeit zu den härtesten Sommer-Kritikern …
Im April 2023, nach Bayerns 0:3 im Viertelfinal-Hinspiel bei Man City, hatte er bei Sky gesagt: „Für mich war der Torwart heute heillos überfordert. Was er für Bälle gehalten hat – mir braucht ihr das nicht zu zeigen, das ist mir Wurscht, dafür wird er bezahlt. Der Torwart hat heute maßgeblich, und nicht nur heute, in den letzten Wochen, maßgeblich die Mannschaft verunsichert.“ Sein Urteil damals: „Ich dachte, als er kam: Der packt das. (…) Ich muss mich revidieren und sagen: Er hat das nicht geschafft. (…) Ich glaube nicht, dass er eine Option ist für nächstes Jahr bei den Bayern im Tor zu stehen, weil er einfach in den letzten Wochen zu oft in diesen großen Spielen überfordert war.“
Jetzt hat es Sommer nicht nur den Bayern, sondern auch Hamann gezeigt.
