On April 2nd, billionaire Glen Taylor agreed to transfer complete ownership of the Minnesota Timberwolves and the WNBA’s Minnesota Lynx to a group lead by entrepreneur Marc Lore and Alex Rodriguez. Since then, A-Rod has been a regular to the Twolves games, even more during the playoffs.
And before game 3 of the Western Conference Semifinals, which was played at Chase Center in San Francisco, California – home of the Golden State Warriors – , Rodriguez got an Uber with the baseball legend Barry Bonds, considered by many fans and experts as the greatest hitter of all time.
“Back here in the Bay Area, and of course I have to call my favorite Uber driver, I gave him 5 stars last time. Here he is, Mr. Barry Bonds, What up Barry? Barry had a great career, he had about 720 home runs,” said A-Rod before he got interrupted by Bonds. “Did it look like I was smiling?” replied the San Francisco icon, as he looked pissed at Alex’ comments.
Rodriguez went on to repeat that Bonds had 720 home runs, which made the former MLB legend even more mad. He actually finished with 762 home runs, the most ever by any player, although that record has a question mark due to the fact that he got indicted on four counts of perjury and one count of obstruction of justice , accused of lying when he said he didn’t knowingly took steroids given to him by his then personal trainer, Greg Anderson.
A-Rod and Barry Bonds share something in common
Alex Rodriguez and Barry Bonds share something awful in common: they are not in the Baseball Hall of Fame. The latter fell short for a 10th time in in his 10th and final season of eligibility via the 2022 Baseball Writers’ Association of America Ballot. He’s in the Pittsburgh Pirates Hall of Fame, though, because that’s the team that he started his career with.
In A-Rod’s case, he fell short on his fourth consecutive year of eligibility due to him violating baseball’s performance-enhancing drugs (PED) policy during his career. And that’s probably the one thing that’s going to keep him out of Cooperstown, despite being one of the best baseball players of all time.
Two of his former teammates got in this year, though. Outfielder Ichiro Suzuki and pitcher CC Sabathia. Both of them had amazing careers, just like Rodriguez did. But they never got accused of usin PEDs, which could be one of Alex’s biggest regrets in life.
