After the controversial fight between Saul Canelo Alvarez and William Scull, which was one of the most anticipated in 2025, but ended up being a great disappointment for lovers of this sport and who has already spoken about it was Mauricio Sulaiman.

The president of the World Boxing Council broke his silence and spoke about the attitude that the Cuban has had after the fight with the Mexican that took place on May 3 in Saudi Arabia.

Mauricio Sulaiman describes Scull as disappointing

Sulaiman hit Scull once again and said that he did not want to have a real fight during the 12 rounds, so there was very little action in the ring.

Game Recap: Thunder, 112, Nuggets 105

“It was disappointing the attitude of Scull, really when you’re there you’re watching it, on television you can also see, but when you’re there, stuck to the ring how he shamefully refused, not even the exchange of any way, it was shameful dances, side steps backwards,” he said

He also added that the boxer did not give the fight that was expected, as he only did something to survive against Canelo: “Scull did nothing to win the fight, only to survive”.

Sulaiman also talks about Canelo Alvarez

After the Mexican’s victory when the unanimous decision was announced in his favor, where Canelo became the undisputed super middleweight world champion, Mauricio assured that there were some things that could have affected Alvarez such as being so far from home and the lack of fans.

“In Saul’s case, I think it did have an important effect having fought in Saudi Arabia, a place so far from home, where the altitude and the air is very heavy, there were no people, the motivation that your audience gives you was not there,”

He also stressed that: “It’s not the same to have a Coffee Tuesday when you are talking and talking like today, to when there are only two or three reporters, in Saudi Arabia there was no interaction, that feeling you have as a commissioner I felt empty, not of that fight, in the whole event, all morning, from one to six, I feel that Saul did not have that extra motivation, necessary, he did enough to win against a guy who refuses to fight, he has a lot of experience, he does not need to do other things, it was an event that left a sad touch in boxing.”

Is Caicedo truly the best midfielder in the Premier League?

"Sitting here now, going into October 2025, I think we can say he is the best midfielder in the league." That was the verdict of Gary Neville when it comes to Moises Caicedo. For a player that cost Chelsea £115m, perhaps that is something that should be a given. But now feels like the first time since his move to Stamford Bridge that the Ecuadorian is truly receiving his flowers. It was clear that from the moment he broke into the first team at Brighton, there was something special about Caicedo. It didn't take long before comparisons to N'Golo Kante were drawn. But, after just one full season on the south coast, the amount of money spent on him added expectations that were, at the time, too great. Now, over two years removed from that transfer, the weight of the fee […]
