Jetzt steht es fest!

Das türkische Fußballmärchen für Ex-Bundesliga-Coach Thomas Reis (51) hat sein Happy End gefunden. Nach dem Pokalsieg von Galatasaray gegen Trabzonspor (3:0) ist klar: dem Reis–Klub Samsunspor ist die Teilnahme an der Europa League nicht mehr zu nehmen.

Da Galatasaray bereits als Meister für die Champions League feststeht, wird der Viertplatzierte aus Samsun ebenfalls nach Europa geschickt!

Es ist eine kleine Sensation! Und für den Klub aus der Hafenstadt ein Novum: Bis auf eine Teilnahme am eingestellten Intertoto–Cup (1997) hat Samsunspor noch nie in einem europäischen Wettbewerb gespielt.

Vor der Saison hatte Samsunspor wegen einer Transfersperre keine Spieler verpflichten dürfen. Die Lage war düster – und dann kam der Ex–Schalke–Coach Reis ans Schwarze Meer.

Und die Saison für Thomas Reis könnte sogar noch besser enden. Der Drittplatzierte Besiktas befindet sich nur einen Punkt vor Samsunspor – drei Spiele vor Saisonende. Die Samsunspor-Gegner sind zudem durchaus schlagbar: Sivasspor (17.), Trabzonspor (9.) und Kayserispor (11.) sind allesamt nicht im oberen Drittel der Tabelle.

Thomas Reis übernahm im Sommer 2024 den Trainerposten bei Samsunspor von Markus Gisdol (55). Nach 33 Ligaspielen holte der 51–Jährige beim Abstiegskandidaten 17 Siege. Das sind starke 1,73 Punkte pro Spiel.

Um seinen Vertrag muss sich der Trainer auch nicht sorgen. Bei Klassenerhalt wird ihm eine automatische Verlängerung seines Kontrakts garantiert. Um den Klassenerhalt geht es allerdings in Samsun längst nicht mehr.
