Hace dos años, en la localidad checa de Podebrady, el equipo español de marcha firmó una actuación para la historia en el Campeonato de Europa por equipos de la especialidad. Lo hizo con dos oros por equipos, un récord del mundo (el de María Pérez en 35 kilómetros), un récord nacional (el de Álvaro Martín en 20 kilómetros marcha) y un triplete en féminas nunca visto antes.
Este domingo, en año postolímpico, España acude de nuevo a Podebrady, con un equipo de 21 atletas, 11 hombres y 10 mujeres, que se reparten en las tres distancias en liza: 20, 35 y 10 kilómetros sub-20. Al frente del equipo, se encuentra María Pérez, doble medallista olímpica, que en 2023 se convirtió en esta cita por equipos en la primera española en ostentar una plusmarca universal (con oficialidad de World Athletics), con 2.37:15 en los 35 km, y Paul McGrath, plata europea en Roma en la cita del pasado año previa a París.
España buscará defender los dos oros por equipos de 2023 en una prueba que es importante para la clasificación de los marchadores para el Mundial de Tokio.
María Pérez regresa a una competición internacional tras los Juegos de París con el objetivo de contribuir a que el equipo repita podio, siempre con la opción también de ganar una medalla individual. Tendrá como principal rival a la italiana Palmisano. También competirán en la distancia Raquel González (ya con plaza para Tokio) y Cristina Montesinos -ambas medallistas hace dos años- y Beatriz Cantero.
En la prueba masculina, Miguel Ángel López lidera el equipo español, formado por Manuel Bermúdez, Daniel Chamosa y Marc Tur. Enfrente se erige como gran rival el italiano Massimo Stano, campeón olímpico y mundial en los 20, que disputará la distancia larga, así como el alemán Linke.

En los 20 kilómetros marcha, Paul McGrath, subcampeón continental en 2024, y Antía Chamosa, que se proclamó en invierno doble campeona de España de 20 y 35 km, encabezan los equipos nacionales.

En la prueba masculina, estarán los tres integrantes del podio europeo del pasado año: Perseus Karlström, McGraht y Francesco Fortunato. Además, España compite con Álvaro López, campeón de España, Iván López y José Manuel Pérez.
En féminas, Antía buscará el podio individual, con rivales como la ucraniana Lyudmyla Olyanovska, entre otras. El equipo español lo completan Lidia Sánchez-Puebla, Lucía Redondo y Paula Juárez.
