Angel Reese could ask for a trade after Chicago Sky’s humiliating loss to Caitlin Clark

Angel Reese‘s WNBA opening game with the Chicago Sky didn’t go as planned. The highly anticipated showdown between Reese and Indiana Fever star Caitlin Clark ended in a lopsided 93-58 defeat for Chicago on Saturday, leaving fans wondering just how long Reese will stay committed to her new team.

Among those adding fuel to the fire was sports columnist Jason Whitlock, who took to social media with a provocative prediction.

“I’m setting the over-under on when Angel Reese demands a trade at July 1,” Whitlock posted on X, sparking debate over whether the Sky rookie could soon grow frustrated with her surroundings.

The Sky’s offseason rebuild included sweeping changes, as former head coach Teresa Weatherspoon was replaced by Tyler Marsh, and veterans such as Courtney Vandersloot, Kia Nurse, Rebecca Allen, and Ariel Atkins were brought in to add experience.

The team also drafted rookies Hailey Van Lith and Maddy Westbeld, signaling a new era. But despite the roster shake-up, Chicago looked disjointed in their season opener, lacking a go-to scorer or playmaker to stabilize the offense.

Reese struggles but Clark shines

Reese posted a respectable double-double-12 points and 17 rebounds-but struggled from the field, shooting just 5-of-14. She also committed five turnovers, at times forced into roles outside her comfort zone, including handling the ball upcourt.

Meanwhile, Kamilla Cardoso logged just 21 minutes and was largely underutilized in the post-a sharp contrast to her effective usage last season.

Chicago’s inability to find rhythm on either end exposed lingering questions about the team’s identity and whether its roster can mesh quickly enough in a competitive Eastern Conference.

On the flip side, Caitlin Clark put on a show, delivering a triple-double in her WNBA debut with 20 points, 10 rebounds, 10 assists, two steals, and four blocks.

The former Iowa star shot 6-for-13 from the field and knocked down four three-pointers, showing off the range and floor vision that made her the No. 1 pick and a central figure in the league’s next generation.
