Er kam, sah – und griff durch!
Seit rund zwei Wochen ist Flavio Briatore offiziell wieder am Steuer bei Alpine. Die Formel-1-Legende, unter dessen Führung Michael Schumacher bei Benetton 1994 und 1995 seine ersten beiden WM-Titel einfahren konnte, wechselte nach dem Großen Preis von Miami (Vereinigte Staaten) wechselte von seiner Rolle als Berater in das Amt des Teamchefs.
Eine der ersten Amtshandlungen des Italieners: Der Rausschmiss von Fahrer Jack Doohan (22). Eine Entscheidung, die Alpine viel Kritik einbrachte. Jetzt wehrt sich Briatore!
Im Vorfeld des Großen Preises von Monaco (Sonntag 15 Uhr; Sky) sagt er im Interview mit RTL, dass das „kein Skandal“ gewesen sei. Der Alpine-Boss, der sich selbst als „demokratischen Diktator“ bezeichnet, weiter: „Wir sind mit Jack Doohan in die Saison gestartet, er hatte fünf Rennen, um sich zu beweisen. Nach fünf Rennen haben wir uns die Ergebnisse angeguckt. Und das hat mir nicht gefallen.“ So weit, so normal.

Doch dann wird das Formel-1-Urgestein deutlich: „In einem Unternehmen bleibt man auch nur, wenn man einen guten Job macht. Wenn man einen schlechten Job macht, wird man gefeuert.“ Rumms. Gefühle spielen dabei keine Rolle. Denn Briatore war bis Ende 2024 noch Teil des Managements von Doohan, verhalf dem zum Cockpit bei dem französischen Rennstall. Aber: Jetzt vertritt er die Interessen von Alpine.
Briatore: „Ich schütze nur die Menschen, die für mich arbeiten“
Briatore: „Wir haben zwei Fahrer, die ihren Job machen müssen. Davon sind über Tausend Menschen und ihre Familien abhängig. Ich schütze nur die Menschen, die für mich arbeiten. Deshalb wähle ich den bestmöglichen Fahrer für das Auto.“ Aus seiner Sicht ist das Franco Colapinto (21).
[–>Der Argentinier übernahm am vergangenen Wochenende, beim Großen Preis der Emilia Romagna in Imola, das Cockpit von Doohan. Ob Colapinto wirklich der bessere Fahrer ist, ist offen. Klar ist aber: Die rund 40 Millionen Euro Sponsoren-Gelder, die die Beförderung des ehemaligen Williams-Piloten mit sich gebracht haben, dürften Briatore ebenfalls gefallen haben.
Bleibt abzuwarten, ob Colapinto sich in der Formel 1 beweisen kann, oder sein neuer Teamchef zeitnah wieder durchgreifen muss. Denn die Knallhart-Abrechnung mit Doohan dürfte auch als Warnung an die beiden aktuellen Fahrer zu verstehen sein.
