During the 2025 NFL Draft, New York Giants secured their quarterback in the first round by selecting former Ole Miss, Jaxson Dart.
The QB was chosen with the 25th overall selection and was the second overall pick at this position, behind Cam Ward. He was even picked ahead of the projected Shedeur Sanders, selected at 144 by the Cleveland Browns on the third day of the draft.

However, his arrival to the team had a similar detail to Shedeur’s: he had to share the quarterback position with veterans such as Russell Wilson and Jameis Winston.
At a press conference, one of the reporters asked Dart about the designation of Wilson as the starter, to which the rookie responded that the goal of the team and as quarterbacks “is to win games” and achieve collective success that benefits everyone:

“That’s why we come to work every single day. We want to win. So we all have the same focus, we have the same intent in what we’re doing and how we’re trying to handle it to make the team better.”
The good feeling the Giants seem to have
Far from avoiding bringing up the fact that it’s still a competition for a job and publicly demonstrating his talent, Dart was very situationally aware: “Obviously, you’re competing, but those guys, they’ve been in my shoes, they were rookies once, too. They understand the growing pain, the adjustments from learning a new system so fast,” he commented.
During the Q&A session, Jaxon also confessed that Wilson, Winston and Tommy DeVito all reached out to him after his selection in the Draft and added that his teammates have proven to be great emotional breadwinners: “I have a great corner for those guys, so I’m going to continue to lean on them.”
Dart’s numbers
The 22-year-old QB played for the USC Trojans and Ole Miss Rebels prior to his selection by the Giants. During his three seasons with those in Oxford, he racked up 10,617 yards, which surpassed Eli Manning’s previous school record.
Last year, he completed 69.3% of his passes for 4,279 yards, 29 touchdowns in 13 games.
Starting the season under the shadow of 2024’s disappointing 3-14 record, Dart and the Giants are hoping to turn things around this year and get better results.
