Die SG Flensburg-Handewitt steht im Endspiel der EHF Finals, dem Finale der European League.
Vor 11.000 Zuschauern in der Barclays Arena setzte sich die SG im Bundesliga-Duell gegen die MT Melsungen durch – 35:34 (28:28, 16:15) nach Verlängerung. Ein Halbfinal-Krimi!

Neun der letzten zehn Sieger kamen aus der Bundesliga. Im Kampf um die Trophäe und die Siegprämie von 100.000 Euro trifft Flensburg am Sonntag (18 Uhr, Dyn und DAZN) auf den Sieger des zweiten Halbfinals zwischen Kiel und Montpellier (18 Uhr, Dyn und DAZN).
In der Daikin Handball-Bundesliga trennen Flensburg (Platz 6) und Melsungen (2.) acht Punkte, im Halbfinale geben aber die Norddeutschen mit Johannes Golla (27) den Ton an. Für den SG-Kapitän ist es das Duell gegen seinen Bald-Arbeitgeber (ab 2026).
Golla vorher: „Das ist jetzt nichts Besonderes. Es ist schon insofern etwas Besonderes, weil die Spiele immer Duelle auf Augenhöhe waren in den vergangenen Jahren. Das ist ein Hammerbrocken, der da auf uns wartet.“

Flensburg, kam ungeschlagen ins Halbfinale, startet druckvoller. Melsungen, drei Niederlagen auf dem Weg nach Hamburg, überraschend träge – auch gegen den Flensburger Rückraum.
Dabei erinnert die Zusammensetzung der Shooter-Riege phasenweise an eine Alt-Herren-Riege – mit Mads Mensah (33), Jim Gottfridsson (34) und Marko Kopljar (39). Im Schnitt 34,6 Jahre. Der dänische Schlussmann ist auch nach der Pause auf dem Posten, dafür geht seinen Kollegen die Puste aus, sie bleiben entweder am MT-Block hängen oder scheitern an Torwart Adam Morawski (30). Der Pole wird angefeuert von Weltmeister Carsten Lichtlein (42), der als Back-up auf der Bank sitzt.
Jetzt ist es ein Spiel auf Augenhöhe – nicht immer schön, aber mega-spannend. Die jeweils letzten Würfe bleiben an den Torhütern kleben – Verlängerung mit zweimal fünf Minuten!
Und da sieht Flensburg schnell wieder der glücklichere Sieger aus, führt mit drei Toren (32:29). Aber Melsungen kämpft zurück, schafft den Ausgleich (33:33). Ein Krimi, den Niclas Kirkelökke (31) mit seinem sechsten Tor entscheidet! Und Melsungen verliert den ersten von zwei möglichen Titeln …
