Millions of Americans receiving Social Security benefits will see important changes and updates as June approaches. These changes include an early Supplemental Security Income (SSI) deposit, policy adjustments and ongoing service delays due to staffing cuts.
You will notice two SSI deposits in May, but none in June. This is a scheduling adjustment, not an additional payment.
If you receive Supplemental Security Income, your June payment will arrive early on Friday, May 30, 2025. This is because June 1 falls on a Sunday, and the Social Security Administration (SSA) issues advance payments when this happens.

This is the payment schedule for June 2025:
- June 3: For those who receive SSI and Social Security or who began receiving benefits before May 1997
- June 11: If your birthday is between the 1st and the 10th
- June 18: If your birthday is between the 11th and the 20th
- June 25: If your birthday is between the 21st and the 31st
Direct deposit usually takes place in the early hours of the day, while checks sent by mail may take longer.
It should be remembered that the Cost of Living Adjustment (COLA) 2025 is still in force, and the average monthly benefit is around $1,976 dollars.
However, the rising cost of living means that many beneficiaries still suffer financial hardship. Lawmakers are considering a change in the calculation of the COLA, but nothing has yet been approved.
New rule on overpayments in force
The SSA faced criticism earlier this year for claiming 100% of a monthly benefit for overpayments, but since April 25, 2025, this has changed.
The SSA can now only withhold up to 50% of your benefit, unless you agree to a higher amount. If you receive an overpayment letter, act quickly to file a waiver, appeal or payment plan.
A new SSA rule requires in-person identity checks for certain applicants, especially those applying for retirement or survivor benefits outside the online system.
This rule aims to reduce fraud, but it can cause delays, especially in rural areas where SSA offices are scarce.
We must remember that the Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE), led by Elon Musk, has pushed the SSA to streamline its operations, and more than 3,500 employees have lost their jobs and up to 25 offices have already closed.
