Der Kampf gegen Platz 17, der zum Abstieg in die 2. Liga verdammt, ist seit Samstagabend spannender denn je. Und ein fast schon abgeschriebenes Team hat das Momentum wieder auf seine Seite gezogen.

Handball-Abstiegskampf wird ein Thriller
Die SG BBM Bietigheim und ihr spanischer Star-Trainer Iker Romero haben das Schwaben-Derby beim TVB Stuttgart 30:26 gewonnen. Einer der vielen Bietigheimer Männer des Abends war Torwart Daniel Rebmann. Er steht ab Sommer in Stuttgart unter Vertrag, er stürzte seinen neuen Arbeitgeber mit 13 Paraden dennoch ins Unglück.
Die unfassbare enge Ausgangslacke im Bundesliga-Keller hat sich jetzt weiter verschärft. Der ohnehin abgeschlagene 1. VfL Potsdam stünde mit der nächsten Niederlage rechnerisch als erster Absteiger fest. Die Suche nach dem zweiten Absteiger wird, Stand jetzt, zu einem Fall für den Rechenschieber.
Der HC Erlangen, Bietigheim und Stuttgart sind jetzt gleichauf mit jeweils 14 Pluspunkten. Schlecht für Erlangen, dass der HC nur noch drei Partien zu absolvieren hat (gegen SC Magdeburg, in Bietigheim und bei der HSG Wetzlar). Vorteil für den HCE, dass er die beste Tordifferenz (-97) der drei Kellerklubs hat.

Coach Romero nach dem Derbysieg in Stuttgart: „Ich habe keine Worte, meine Mannschaft hat alles gesagt. Jedes Mal passiert das, sie glauben ohne Ende, sie vertrauen, sie kämpfen. Sie sind einfach gut. Sie sind einfach eine richtig gute Mannschaft.“
Die Stuttgarter haben wochenlang wie Schaulustige bei einem schweren Unfall dem Treiben im Keller zugesehen. Es aber verpasst, sich rechtzeitig vom Unfallort zu entfernen. Dazu gab es mit zwei Heimspielen in Folge ausgerechnet gegen Erlangen und Bietigheim die Möglichkeit – es wurden zwei Pleiten und Totalschäden.
„Es ist für uns sehr hart. Wir haben jetzt zwei richtige Big-Point-Spiele verloren, aber das Wichtigste ist, dass wir jetzt wieder aufstehen“, sagt Interimstrainer und Geschäftsführer Jürgen Schweikardt.
Der Rest seiner Analyse klingt wie eine Durchhalte-Parole: „Die Saison ist immer noch nicht durch. Wir sind noch nicht abgestiegen. Wir haben noch vier Spiele und die müssen wir mit allem, was wir haben, angehen und dann schauen wir, was morgen in zwei Wochen rauskommt.“
