Utkání o bronz bude mít ve Stockholmu jasného favorita. Byť zklamaného. Domácí Švédsko totiž na 88. mistrovství světa očekávalo boj o zlatou medaili. Po sobotním výprasku 2:6 od Spojených států se však bude muset smířit se zápasem o bronz, který obhajují z loňské Prahy.
„Musíme hrát za naše žluté dresy a pro naše fanoušky, kteří nás od začátku turnaje podporují. Ale samozřejmě bude složité se nahecovat. Jsme opravdu zklamaní, fakt jsme si chtěli zahrát o zlato. Ale musíme to vstřebat, zítra se probudit s bojovnou náladou a získat bronz,“ řekl po sobotní porážce útočník Mikael Backlund.
Jeho tým bude v souboji o bronz obrovským favoritem. V cestě mu bude stát Dánsko, které po senzačním postupu přes Kanadu dostalo v semifinále příděl 0:7 od Švýcarů. Dánové hrají o medaili vůbec poprvé v historii. Řečí kurzů by se však jejich výhra rovnala zázraku. Sázkové kanceláře vypsaly na výhru outsidera kurzy v rozmezí 15:1 až 19:1.

O pět hodin později poznáme nového světového šampiona. A jisté je, že skončí jedno dlouhé čekání. Spojené státy se do finále dostaly po dlouhých 65 letech. Přesně tak dlouho čekají na zlatou medaili z mistrovství světa.
„Víme, že naše země čeká na zlato fakt dlouho. Chceme to změnit,“ hlásil bojovně před finále útočník Josh Doan. On ani jeho spoluhráči po vyřazení Švédů ani netušili, jak dlouho hokejová velmoc jménem USA na zlatou medaili z mistrovství světa čeká.
Švýcarsko však bude mít snad ještě větší motivaci. Loni podlehlo ve finále Čechům, kteří byli v prvním zápase turnaje jediným sokem, na nějž Švýcaři nestačili. Především ale vyslanci Helvétského kříže nemají na kontě ani jednu zlatou medaili. Hned čtyřikrát byli stříbrní.
Do finále vedla pro Švýcary poněkud snazší cesta. Šesti góly vyřídili Rakousko a následně smetli z cesty i Dány. „Letos už to chceme vyhrát,“ pravil odhodlaně útočník Ken Jäger pro SRF.

88. ročník mistrovství světa v hokeji je na programu v termínu od 9. do 25. května 2025. Hostí jej Švédsko a Dánsko, konkrétně města Stockholm a Herning.
