Nach zähem Poker verlängerte Mohamed Salah im April seinen Vertrag beim FC Liverpool, unterschrieb vorzeitig bis 2027 – trotz großem Werben aus Saudi-Arabien.
Al-Hilal und Al-Ittihad wollten den Ägypter haben, lockten Salah mit Gehaltssummen von angeblich 100 Millionen Euro. Der Angreifer knickte nicht ein, entschied sich stattdessen für zwei weitere Jahre bei den „Reds“.
[–>Doch Salah war dem Abschied näher als bislang bekannt. Über das Interesse aus Saudi-Arabien sagte er dem ägyptischen Sender ON Sport: „Es war eine gute Gelegenheit für mich. Wenn ich meinen Vertrag mit Liverpool nicht verlängert hätte, wäre es passiert.“
Und weiter: „Meine Beziehungen zu den Verantwortlichen der saudischen Liga sind sehr gut. Wir haben viel gesprochen, es waren ernsthafte Verhandlungen.“
Pass, Annahme, Traumtor!: Italien staunt über diese Szene
Dass Salah so intensiv mit den Saudi-Klubs sprach, lag wohl auch daran, dass er die Verhandlungen mit Liverpool als „langwierig“ empfand. Der Liverpooler: „Ich kenne die Vereinspolitik. Wir haben einen Kompromiss gefunden, mit dem wir alle zufrieden sind.“ Salah unterschrieb schließlich bis 2027, wäre bei Vertragserfüllung zehn Jahre im Klub.
Und sagt: „Der Druck auf den Verein kam zum Teil von den Fans. Ich wusste von Anfang an, dass sie wollten, dass ich weitermache, und sie haben dabei ihren Teil beigetragen.“
So war das Spiel gegen Crystal Palace (1:1) am letzten Spieltag der Premier League nicht sein letzter Auftritt im roten Dress. Salah geht auch in der kommenden Saison auf Titeljagd mit dem FC Liverpool.
Der Ägypter gehört zum festen Bestandteil der Mannschaft von Trainer Arne Slot (46), stand in allen Ligaspielen in der Startelf. Stellte zudem den Premier-League-Rekord für die meisten Torbeteiligungen (47/29 Tore, 18 Assists) in einer Saison ein.
Dürfte alle Liverpool-Fans freuen, dass der Ägypter zwei weitere Jahre ein „Red“ bleibt.
