Kommt die Formel E nach Spanien?
Der Berg Montjuïc in Barcelona war jahrelang Austragungsort der Formel 1, lange bevor der Circuit de Catalunya in Montmelò gebaut wurde. Nun spricht sich ein Stadtrat dafür aus, dass auf dem Montjuïc erneut große internationale Auto-Rennen stattfinden sollen.
Der Fraktionsvorsitzende der konservativen, christdemokratischen Partei „Partido Popular“ in Katalonien, Daniel Sirera, hat Bürgermeister Jaume Collboni dazu geraten, den Montjuïc als Rennstrecke wiederzubeleben – und zwar für die Formel E.
[–>Auf X schreibt er: „Barcelona hat die Chance, ein Formel-E-Rennen auszurichten: Technologie, Nachhaltigkeit und Spektakel auf Rädern.“ Und weiter: „Collboni muss handeln und in Montjuïc investieren, eine historische Rennstrecke, die es verdient, wieder in Schwung zu kommen.“
Sirera möchte, dass das Rennen für Elektroautos im Jahr 2027 in Katalonien stattfindet, da die Organisatoren bereits jetzt nach Austragungsorten für diesen Zyklus suchen.
Diese Idee ist nicht neu. Vor zwei Jahren sprach sich der damalige Cupra-CEO Wayne Griffiths für die Rennstrecke aus: „Selbstverständlich würde ich mir wünschen, dass sie in Barcelona fährt, und ich habe auch eine Idee, wie das funktionieren würde: Wenn es schnell gehen müsste, dann auf der Formel-1-Rennstrecke in Montmelo.“
Und weiter: „Aber die Formel E muss eigentlich in der Stadt fahren. Mir schwebt der Montjuïc im Herzen Barcelonas vor, in der Nähe des Olympiastadions. Die Strecke war bereits Teil der Rallye Katalonien.“
Spektakel-Rennen in Tokio: Krimi zwischen Wehrlein und Rowland
1969 bis 1975 fuhr die Formel 1 viermal auf dem Circuit de Montjuïc – die Strecke galt es eine der schwersten. Nach einem Unfall des deutschen Piloten Rolf Stommelen, bei dem mehrere Zuschauer ums Leben kamen, fuhr die Formel 1 nicht mehr auf der Strecke.
Kommt bald etwa der Barcelona E-Prix? Wie realistisch der Vorstoß ist, ist fraglich. Bislang wurden keine Formel-E-Rennen in Spanien ausgetragen – Ausnahme war die Pandemie-Saison 2021. Seit 2017 finden jedoch die Vorsaison-Testfahrten in Valencia statt.
