Seit Jahren kämpft PSG um die ultimative Krönung: den Titel in der Champions League. Bislang vergebens. Am Samstag startet der französische Klub den nächsten Anlauf. Bayerns langjähriger Vorstandschef Karl-Heinz Rummenigge (69), der von 1984 bis 1987 für Inter Mailand spielte, lobt den Pariser Verein und erklärt das Erfolgsrezept: „Die Klub-DNA hat sich komplett verändert. Früher, nach dem Investoren-Einstieg, setzte man stark auf große Namen – heute auf ein homogeneres Team“, sagt er.
Und weiter: „Zwei Dinge waren dabei entscheidend: Erstens haben sie ihre Payroll deutlich reduziert – viele der Größtverdiener, die auch für Unruhe in der Kabine sorgten, sind nicht mehr da. Zweitens haben sie mit Luis Enrique endlich den passenden Trainer gefunden.“

Der große Wurf gelang aber mit Neymar (33/kam 2017 für 222 Millionen Euro aus Barcelona, spielte bis 2023 bei PSG), Kylian Mbappé (26/kam 2018 fest für 180 Millionen Euro von Monaco, spielte bis 2024 in Paris) oder Lionel Messi (37/ kam 2021 aus Barcelona, spielte zwei Jahre für PSG) nicht.
Rummenigge sagt: „Ich habe Nasser Al-Khelaifi, mit dem ich befreundet bin, schon 2020 gesagt: Man braucht Geduld, um diesen Titel zu holen. Damals, in Lissabon, war er sehr enttäuscht – vielleicht ist jetzt der Moment gekommen.“ 2020 hatte sich der FC Bayern in Lissabon im Endspiel mit 1:0 gegen Paris durchgesetzt.
