Doch das stößt nicht bei allen auf Begeisterung: Ex-Brasilien-Star Gilberto Silva (48, spielte von 2002 bis 2008 bei Arsenal) gibt zu, dass er lieber einen Brasilianer auf dem Trainerposten gesehen hätte. „Ich hätte ehrlich gesagt einen brasilianischen Trainer bevorzugt. Aber Carlo ist jemand, den wir respektieren und für fähig halten, einen großartigen Job zu machen“, sagte er dem Portal „Football365“.
Doch er verspricht: „Ich unterstütze ihn.“

Die brasilianische Fußballkonföderation beschreibt Ancelottis Ernennung als „Meilenstein, der zwei Ikonen zusammenführt“. Offiziell übernimmt er am 26. Mai das Ruder. Seine erste große Aufgabe: Brasilien zur WM 2026 führen. In der aktuellen CONMEBOL-Rangliste liegt Brasilien auf Platz vier, zehn Punkte hinter Spitzenreiter Argentinien.

Silva betont, dass es wichtig sei, den neuen Trainer zu unterstützen, unabhängig von seiner Nationalität. „Egal ob Brasilianer, Portugiese, Argentinier oder Italiener – als Fan unterstützt man das Team und den Trainer. Ich hoffe, dass eine gute Stimmung um ihn herum entsteht und er gute Verbindungen zu den Spielern aufbauen kann, um wieder erfolgreich zu sein.“
Die Erwartungen an Ancelotti sind hoch. Er soll die Seleção zurück an die Weltspitze führen und die brasilianischen Fans wieder jubeln lassen.
