Eine erste Entscheidung hat Lukas Kwasniok (43) getroffen. Er will nach SPORT BILD-Informationen nach aktuellem Stand kein Traineramt in der 2. Liga übernehmen. Zuletzt hatten der FC Schalke 04, Hannover 96 und Greuther Fürth um ihn gebuhlt. Kwasniok, der beim SC Paderborn zum Saisonende aufgehört hat, sieht seine Zukunft in der 1. Bundesliga.

Landet er am Ende beim 1. FC Köln? Zwar ist Werder Bremen auf der Suche nach einem neuen Trainer fündig geworden: Es wird Horst Steffen (56) aus Elversberg. Doch die Rheinländer suchen weiter einen neuen Coach. Einer der Top-Kandidaten: Kwasniok. Mit ihm tauschten sich die Verantwortlichen des Erstliga-Aufsteigers zuletzt intensiv aus. Der gebürtige Pole ist nach SPORT BILD-Info nicht abgeneigt. Denn der FC ist ein großer Klub mit Strahlkraft. Die Stimmung im Stadion ist immer bestens.

Allerdings muss Köln eine Ablöse für ihn zahlen. Denn in Paderborn ist Kwasniok nur freigestellt – sein Vertrag läuft bis 2026 weiter. Von rund einer Million Euro ist die Rede.

Auch der VfL Wolfsburg und Werder Bremen erkundigten sich zuletzt nach Kwasniok. Aber zu einer Zusammenarbeit kam es bisher nicht. Davor wollte Bundesliga-Aufsteiger Hamburger SV den Fußball-Lehrer verpflichten: im Dezember 2024. Der SCP erteilte ihm aber keine Freigabe, der HSV beförderte Merlin Polzin (34) vom Co- zum Cheftrainer. Er schaffte mit den Hamburgern ein knappes halbes Jahr später den Aufstieg.

Der Coach kam 2021 zu den Ostwestfalen, geholt wurde er von Ex-Manager Fabian Wohlgemuth (46), der aktuell sehr erfolgreich beim neuen DFB-Pokalsieger VfB Stuttgart arbeitet. Mit den Ostwestfalen wurde Kwasniok vergangene Saison Vierter. In den Spielzeiten davor zweimal Siebter und einmal Sechster.
