Riquelme comemora gol na Sul-Americana (Divulgação – Grêmio)
Em confronto da 6ª rodada da fase de grupos da Copa Sul-Americana, Grêmio e Sportivo Luqueño duelaram nesta quinta (29). Precisando da vitória para buscar uma vaga direta nas oitavas de final, o Tricolor viveu uma noite de pouca inspiração. Sem aproveitar os dois expulsos no adversário, os donos da casa tiveram uma noite de pouca inspiração, mas a estrela de Riquelme evitou outro resultado frustrante.
Partindo para o ataque, desde o início da partida, o Grêmio teve uma chance valiosa de abrir o placar aos 13 minutos. Com auxílio do VAR, o pênalti sofrido por Arezo foi marcado, mas o atacante falhou na marca da cal. Assumindo a responsabilidade, o camisa 19, com um chute fraco, facilitou a vida do goleiro Mongelós.
Na sequência, a vida do Grêmio ficou mais fácil. Isso porque, após falta dura em Nathan, Elvio Vera deixou o Luqueño em desvantagem numérica. Apesar disso, a equipe de Mano Menezes, com uma pontaria descalibrada, não balançou as redes do adversário no primeiro tempo.

Antes do apito final, o Sportivo Luqueño perdeu outro jogador por expulsão. Levando o cartão vermelho por entrada em Ronald, Fernando Benítez deixou o clube paraguaio com apenas nove homens em campo, mas o Grêmio não conseguiu aumentar o placar.
Futuro na Sul-Americana
Mesmo com o Godoy Cruz empatando contra o Atlético Grau, a classificação direta do Grêmio não foi alcançada. Com um saldo de gols positivo de cinco, o time argentino ficou à frente no Grupo D, motivo pelo qual o Tricolor terá que disputar os playoffs para garantir vaga nas oitavas de final da Copa Sul-Americana.
