WM-Leader Piastri denkt nicht daran, auf die Bremse zu treten, bevor ein vermeintliches Feuer zu lodern beginnt. „Ich finde es klasse vom Team, dass wir beide um die Renn-Siege fighten dürfen.“

Unklar, ob Piastri sich an diese Worte erinnert, wenn es hart auf hart kommt. Der WM-Führende ist im Fahrerlager als „eiskalter Engel“ bekannt.

Und: Bereits in der Vergangenheit fiel er durch harte (aber faire) Manöver gegen seinen Teamkollegen auf.
Aber: Der junge Australier scheint glaubwürdig. Er hat weitere weise Worte eines gefühlten Veteranen: „Wir dürfen eine faire, sportliche Linie nicht überschreiten.“
Nicht jedes Team würde so entscheiden. Weil beide Fahrer und das McLaren-Team auch wissen, dass mit Max Verstappen ein möglicher lachender Dritter Nutzen von einem zerstörerischen Zweikampf ziehen könnte. Der Red-Bull-Champion (vier Titel seit 2021) lauert nur 25, bzw. 22 Punkte hinter den Papaya-Fahrern.
