Telekom Baskets Bonn
Vor zwei Jahren gewannen die Telekom Baskets Bonn unter Erfolgstrainer Tuomas Iisalo (42) die Champions League und wurde in Vizemeister der Easycredit Basketball Bundesliga.
Iisalo (inzwischen Memphis Grizzlies) wechselte im Anschluss nach Paris und nahm praktisch die komplette Mannschaft mit. Die Erwartungen der Fans sind geblieben – aber das Team sucht seither nach einer neuen Identität.
Die soll nach der Entlassung von Roel Moors (46) im Januar nun der neue Headcoach Marko Stankovic (41) entwickeln. Und setzt dabei offenbar auf einen alten Bekannten …
[–>Laut „Bonner Generalanzeiger“ kommt Champions-League-Sieger Michael Kessens (34) zurück auf den Hardtberg! Der Center war 2023 ebenfalls nach Paris gegangen. Weil er diese Saison in der Euroleague jedoch nur noch eine Nebenrolle spielte, wechselte Kessens im Winter zu Alba Berlin. Doch dort plant man nicht mehr mit dem Routinier.
Schon offiziell bestätigt ist die Verpflichtung von Tylan Birts (28/USA). Der Flügelspieler (Vertrag bis 2027) wurde gerade mit ERA Nymburk tschechischer Meister und in der Liga zum „Verteidiger des Jahres“ gewählt.
Birts spielte zuvor schon in Finnland und Serbien und soll endlich das schaffen, was schon unter Moors nie funktionierte: den Bonnern eine defensive Identität verleihen. Stankovic: „Wir erhoffen uns von ihm, dass er unserem Team mit seiner Mentalität, Verteidigung und Führungsqualität Stabilität verschafft.“

Gesunder Futterer für Vechta
Von Bonn zu Rasta Vechta zieht es Big Man Lars Thiemann (25) – der damit quasi den Posten für Kessens räumt. Bei den Niedersachsen geht der 2,11 Meter große Duisburger in seine dritte Profi-Saison – von 2019 bis 2024 spielte er auf dem College in den USA und studierte Ernährungswissenschaften.
„Lars ist ein Spieler, bei dem wir noch jede Menge Potential sehen“, begründet Sportchef Gerrit Kersten-Thiele die Wahl. „Bei den Veränderungen, die wir jetzt auf den deutschen Positionen haben, war es uns wichtig, jemanden, der sich noch weiter entwickeln möchte, dazu zu holen. Lars wird sich seine Rolle erarbeiten.“
Zweite wichtige Kader-Entscheidung: Vechta hat die Option bei Universalwaffe Lloyd Pandi (25) gezogen und den Vertrag mit dem kanadischen Nationalspieler ein Jahr verlängert. Pandi: „Zu wissen, dass ich dort spiele, wo ich mich erwünscht fühle, war der Schlüssel dafür, dass ich hier bleibe. Ich habe das Gefühl, dass ich noch viel mehr zu zeigen habe.“
Bamberg holt Anker zurück
Nach einer historisch schlechten Saison (nur Platz 15) brauchen die Bamberg Baskets vor allem eins: ein besseres Team! Erster Neuer im Team von Trainer Anton Gavel ist Daniel Keppeler (28). Der Big Man (2,05 Meter) unterschrieb bis 2027 und kommt von Zweitligist Hakro Merlins Crailsheim.
Keppeler stammt aus Nürnberg und wechselte mit 15 in die Jugendabteilung der Bamberger. Gavel über den Rückkehrer: „Seine defensive Präsenz war sicherlich eine Sache, die uns überzeugt hat. Er soll unser defensiver Anker sein. Offensiv kann er vielseitig sowohl von außen als auch von innen scoren und uns damit helfen.“

Finanz-Schub für Frankfurt?
Die Frankfurt Skyliners machen offenbar Ernst. Laut Liga-Insider Rupert Fabig („Hamburger Abendblatt“) steht der letztjährige Aufsteiger vorm Abschluss eines dicken Sponsoren-Deals, der sie „budgetär wohl auf Anhieb in den Kreis der potenziellen Play-off-Kandidaten befördern“ würde!
Laut Fabig haben die Hessen zudem Guard Radii Caisin (24) aus Wels/Österreich verpflichtet. Der Deutsche mit russisch-moldauischen Wurzeln glänzte in der Ösi-Liga mit 18,8 Punkten, 7,6 Rebounds und 3,1 Assists pro Partie.
