For the second year in a row, the Stanley Cup Final will come down to the Edmonton Oilers and the Florida Panthers. These two squads aren’t just chasing the Cup-they’re chasing legacy. It’s the first back-to-back Finals matchup since the Red Wings and Penguins split titles in 2008 and 2009, and this one promises just as much drama.
Florida took last year’s series in seven games, securing its first-ever championship. Now they return not just as contenders, but as defending champs trying to prove it wasn’t a one-time spark. Edmonton, meanwhile, hasn’t lifted the Cup since the days of Messier and Gretzky. After falling just short in 2024, they’re coming back with purpose-and plenty of firepower.

On paper, these teams couldn’t be more even. The Panthers were 47-31-4 this season, while the Oilers finished 48-29-5. Both landed third in their respective divisions. Florida comes in with a slightly better goal differential and a stingier defense. Edmonton, however, leads the playoffs in scoring-and with Connor McDavid and Leon Draisaitl leading the charge, that offense can erupt at any moment.
McDavid has racked up 26 points this postseason, while Draisaitl leads the team with 52 regular-season goals. Florida leans on balance, grit, and big plays from Sam Bennett and Aleksander Barkov, the latter contributing 17 playoff points so far.
The Panthers also took both games in their regular-season series against Edmonton. But in the postseason? Regular-season records don’t always tell the full story.
The question now is simple: Can Edmonton finish what they started, or will Florida solidify its dynasty status with back-to-back titles?
