Aaron Rodgers in black and gold? Believe it.
In a move that cements his place among the NFL’s most legendary late-career nomads, four-time MVP Aaron Rodgers is reportedly signing with the Pittsburgh Steelers, according to Tom Pelissero of NFL Network. The 41-year-old quarterback is expected to fly into Pittsburgh on Friday and make it official before minicamp kicks off next week.
Yes, it’s happening-another Hall of Fame-bound passer ending his career in a jersey we never imagined.
“Renegade A-Rod,” as Pelissero dubbed him, will enter his 21st NFL season with a franchise still looking for its first playoff win since Ben Roethlisberger retired. And with Rodgers’ arrival, the Steelers might finally have their answer under center.
A-Rod comes to shake up the Steelers’ QB room
Contract terms have been quietly locked in for months, per Pelissero, but Pittsburgh’s silence left fans speculating. That all changed today with confirmation that the deal is finally in motion.
The Steelers’ quarterback room-previously filled with Mason Rudolph, sixth-round rookie Will Howard, and Skylar Thompson-now adds one of the most decorated players in NFL history. And perhaps, the biggest X-factor in a loaded AFC North.
Rodgers’ journey to Pittsburgh was long and, at times, cryptic. He visited the team back in March, with head coach Mike Tomlin later calling the meeting “productive.” Steelers president Art Rooney II hinted at a deal brewing during the spring owners’ meetings, but Rodgers threw cold water on the speculation with a vague appearance on The Pat McAfee Show in April.
Now? He’s all in.
Could Rodgers match Favre?
This latest chapter adds another uncanny parallel to Rodgers’ former teammate Brett Favre: Both became Packers legends, had brief runs with the Jets, and closed their careers with unexpected stints elsewhere in the NFL. Rodgers can only hope to match the late-career resurgence Favre enjoyed in Minnesota.
