Dave Portnoy didn’t hold back this week-and neither did Kirk Minihane. What started as a conversation about antisemitism and content moderation on Barstool platforms quickly spiraled into a full-blown shouting match between the company’s founder and one of its most prominent voices.
The friction began with an ongoing controversy at a Portnoy-owned bar in Philadelphia, where a bottle-service sign reading “F-k the Jews” appeared. After speaking with Temple student Mo Khan-who first admitted to the act, then backtracked-Portnoy offered an educational trip to Auschwitz. But when content creator Beyond Average Mick mocked Portnoy’s response and called him “Rabbi Dave,” things got messy.

Minihane suggested bringing Mick onto his show for a discussion. Portnoy wasn’t having it.
“You work for me”: Podcast moment turns personal as debate crosses the line
The situation exploded on a recent episode of The Unnamed Show. When Minihane bristled at Portnoy’s pushback-telling him not to say “shut up”–Portnoy snapped: “Shut the f-k up you bald f-k… you work for me, you little bitch.” Minihane fired back: “For now.” Portnoy’s reply? “Quit, I’ll save $500K.”
At the heart of the argument is a larger disagreement about what kind of speech Barstool should platform. Minihane claimed he just wanted to have “a conversation” with someone Portnoy disagreed with. But Portnoy made his stance crystal clear: “If you’re making Jew jokes right now-after Molotov cocktails were thrown at synagogues, or Jews were killed outside museums-you’re an antisemitic piece of s-t.”
In a video posted Thursday, Portnoy clarified that he wasn’t calling for censorship, jail, or cancellation-just accountability. “This isn’t about jokes in general,” he said. “It’s about the timing, the context, and intent.”
Barstool, a company that built its brand on edgy humor and pushing boundaries, now finds itself navigating the fine line between free speech and hate speech. Whether Minihane faces consequences or not, the moment laid bare a deeper identity crisis within the Barstool empire-one that’s not going away quietly.
