VfL Gummersbach
Die Füchse Berlin sind nach dem Statement-Sieg gegen den VfL Gummersbach nur noch ein Spiel von der ersten Deutschen Meisterschaft ihrer Vereinsgeschichte entfernt. Doch statt ausgelassener Vorfreude gibt es nach dem 45:35 erst einmal Tränen.
Denn sehr emotional werden nach diesem letzten Heimspiel der Saison gleich vier Berliner Stars verabschiedet: Manuel Strlek (36), Tobias Reichmann (36), Jerry Tollbring (29) und Paul Drux (30). Für den Ex-Kapitän Drux, der seine Karriere mitten in der Saison wegen Verletzungsproblemen vorzeitig beenden musste, stehen die 9000 Zuschauer sogar eine Stunde nach Spielschluss noch vollständig in der Halle.
Gerade noch gerettet: Pikanter Versprecher von Handball-Kommentator
So etwas gab es noch nie für einen Handballer. So wurde noch kein Fuchs verabschiedet.
Die Füchse haben ihrem Star (seit 2011 im Verein) ein drei Meter hohes Podest gebaut. Drux steht darauf, mitten in der Arena. Die Berliner verabschieden den Nationalspieler mit Laser-Show, Videobotschaften ehemaliger Weggefährten, einer bewegenden Rede von Füchse-Präsident Frank Steffel (59) und immer wieder Drux-Sprechchören.
Tränen-Abschied von Handball-Held Drux
Viele Fans haben sich vorher das Drux-Abschieds-T-Shirt gekauft. Auch Füchse-Boss Bob Hanning (57) trägt eins. Hanning zu SPORTBILD: „Ich habe lange überlegt, ob ich die Rede halten soll, aber das wäre für Paul und mich wohl zu emotional geworden.“
Auch Fabian Wiede (31) gibt zu: „Es ist brutal schwer für mich. Paul ist mein bester Freund, ich musste schon kurz vor Spielende daran denken, dass jetzt die endgültige Verabschiedung kommt. Er wird uns allen sehr fehlen und mir besonders. Wir waren 14 Jahre lang Team-Kameraden, haben uns häufiger gesehen als unsere Frauen.“

Vor dem Spiel hat Drux seine Familie, Eltern, Ehefrau Linda mit den zwei Töchtern Ella und Maila und die engsten Freunde eingeladen. Drux verrät: „Es war eine kleine Runde und sehr emotional, wir haben viel geweint. Ich hatte ein wenig Angst vor dem Tag, wie er wohl laufen wird, konnte nicht besonders gut schlafen, auch wenn ich viel Zeit hatte, mich auf diesen Tag vorzubereiten. Es war ein sehr schöner Abschied und ich fühle mich wirklich sehr geehrt. Es ist mir aber wirklich schwergefallen, noch mal vor den Fans zu reden. Ich wollte nicht schon wieder weinen. Jetzt bin ich ein wenig froh, dass es überstanden ist.“

Seine Team-Kollegen schnappen sich Drux vom Podest und werfen ihn am Ende gemeinsam in die Luft. Vom Verein bekommt er einen Gutschein für ein Rennrad geschenkt und sein Trikot mit der Nummer 95 wird unters Hallendach gezogen.

Drux, der 272 Spiele für die Füchse machte und 628 Tore warf, ist sich sicher: „Am Sonntag holen wir uns die Meisterschaft. Die Jungs sind so gut drauf.“
Auch die Zukunft von Drux ist geklärt. Frank Steffel verrät: „Paul ist fertig mit seinem Studium, wird jetzt bei unseren Partnern in verschiedenen Unternehmen lernen und uns dann als Mitglied der Geschäftsführung bei den Füchsen erhalten bleiben.“
[–>Trotz Tränen-Abschied wird der Saison-Abschluss aus der Heimhalle dann doch noch gefeiert, mit Freibier, Vertragsverlängerung von Rechtsaußen Hakun West av Teigum (23), der Neuverpflichtung von Tobias Grøndahl (24/Norwegen) und der Auszeichnung für Trainer Jaron Siewert (31). Er wird von Liga-Boss Frank Bohmann (60) als „Trainer des Jahres“ in der Daikin Handball-Bundesliga geehrt.
