Dr. Carsten Bissel ist nicht nur Schwiegervater von Fußball-Superstar Manuel Neuer, sondern auch Aufsichtsratsvorsitzender des HC Erlangen. Der Klub rettete sich am Sonntag am letzten Spieltag der Daikin Handball-Bundesliga vor dem Abstieg.
Die Franken siegten 25:21 bei der HSG Wetzlar — die Rettung! Auch weil Absteiger SG BMM Bietigheim mit 25:35 gegen Vize-Meister SC Magdeburg verliert. Der TVB Stuttgart schaffte den Klassenerhalt mit 29:28 gegen den SC DHfK Leipzig.

Bissel über das Versprechen: „Das war bei unserer Black Night. Ich war einfach überzeugt, dass wir das umbiegen. Ich war 100 % sicher, auch wenn mir schon klar ist, dass es wenig objektive Anknüpfungspunkte gab damals.“
Nach dem 17. Spieltag war der HC Erlangen Vorletzter. Mit 5:29 Punkten. Drei Punkte hinter Bietigheim. Am Ende der Saison hatte der Klub 18:50 auf dem Konto. Ebenso wie Stuttgart. Bietigheim kam mit 17:51 ins Ziel.

Was Bissel so sicher gemacht hat: „Wir wussten da schon, dass wir uns im Rückraum verstärken würden mit Viggo Kristjansson. Das war natürlich ein wichtiger Faktor, weil wir vorher dort nicht stark genug besetzt waren.“
Der Neuzugang war wichtig, noch wichtiger war für Bissel aber: „Die defensive Stabilität unter Johannes Sellin im letzten Drittel der Saison war am Ende der Schlüssel, ohne Viggo was wegzunehmen. Johannes hat Abwehr wie ein Irrer trainieren lassen.“

Warum es zur ungewöhnlichen Maßnahme kam, den nach Saisonbeginn gefeuerten Sellin wieder zum Trainer zu machen: „Johannes ist unglaublich fleißig, er brennt für den HCE, für seinen Job. Und er hat ein unglaubliches Fachwissen. Die Balance zwischen Gelassenheit und eigenem Anspruch musste er über die Zeit finden, wie jeder Trainer. Ihn letzte Saison schon zum Cheftrainer zu machen, war meiner Meinung nach zu früh, aber wir hatten keine Alternative. Aber jetzt hat er die Souveränität erlangt, die noch ein wenig gefehlt hatte.“
Was wird sich ändern? Bissel: „Die Lehren haben wir schon gezogen. Wir haben ein Trainerteam, auf das wir bauen, mit ihnen hätten wir auch bei Abstieg weitergemacht. Die Mannschaft hat gezeigt, dass sie Qualität hat, gerade defensiv. Unsere A-Jugend ist Deutscher Meister, da haben wir zwei bis drei Megatalente, die voll integriert werden im 16er-Kader. Wir suchen noch einen Spieler für den Rückraum, mehr wird von außen nicht kommen.“
