O Flamengo viajará na noite desta quarta-feira (11) para os Estados Unidos, rumo à sua participação na Copa do Mundo de Clubes da Fifa. Fluminense, Botafogo e Palmeiras já chegaram à América do Norte e o rubro-negro será o último brasileiro a desembarcar. A equipe treinada por Filipe Luís estreia na próxima segunda (16), contra o Espérance (Tunísia), na Filadélfia.
Inicialmente, o rubro-negro viajaria na noite desta terça (10), mas a grande quantidade de convocados (10) nesta data Fifa forçou o clube a alterar a programação em um dia. Foram chamados por suas seleções: Gerson, Wesley, Léo Ortiz, Danilo, Alex Sandro (Brasil), Arrascaeta, Varela (Uruguai), Plata (Equador) — foi desconvocado e já retornou —, Matheus Gonçalves e João Victor (Brasil sub-20).
Com esta data, o Flamengo também viajará com elenco completo, já que tem até amanhã para fazer contratações na janela extra de transferências. Até agora, apenas o meia Jorginho foi oficializado. Ele está usando esses dias para se adaptar ao novo clube e também embarcará para os EUA.
A prioridade do departamento de futebol foi embarcar com o grupo completo. O voo fretado está previsto para decolar às 23h desta quarta, no Aeroporto do Galeão, na Zona Norte do Rio de Janeiro. A programação nos EUA ainda será divulgada pelo clube.
Outro motivos para o rubro-negro ter decidido viajar mais próximo ao início do Mundial é o desejo de aproveitar as estruturas de seu Centro de Treinamento, o Ninho do Urubu. Nos EUA, a equipe ficará hospedada em Atlantic City, na Costa Leste, durante a fase de grupos. Porém, estendeu ao máximo o tempo no Brasil.
Ainda há jogadores em recuperação de lesão, como o meia De la Cruz e o atacante Gonzalo Plata, e outros em busca do 100% de condicionamento físico para o torneio, como o atacante Pedro, o volante Erick Pulgar e o lateral-esquerdo Matías Viña.
