Im italienischen Fußball beginnt eine neue Ära!
Die Zeit von Luciano Spalletti (66) als Italiens Nationaltrainer ist zu Ende. Nach der bitteren 0:3-Niederlage gegen Norwegen wurde er gefeuert. Sein letztes Spiel: Das WM-Qualifikationsspiel gegen Moldau. Im September wird ein anderer auf der Trainerbank Platz nehmen. Und der soll sogar schon feststehen, wie die „Gazzetta dello Sport“ berichtet.

Eigentlich plante Ranieri den Rückzug. Letzte Saison war er mit Cagliari Calcio aufgestiegen, wollte danach sein Trainer-Dasein beenden. Im November übernahm er dann doch noch mal AS Rom, wurde dort Trainer von Mats Hummels (36). Die Roma beendete die Saison auf Platz 5, Ranieri kündigte erneut seinen Rückzug an. Künftig wollte er Berater des Klubs sein.
Daran ändert sich nichts. Roma-Boss Dan Friedkin soll schon seine Zustimmung gegeben haben, dass Ranieri eine Doppelfunktion innehat. Berater und Italien-Trainer.
Der Corriere dello Sport schreibt dazu: „Alle Wege führen nach Rom, auch für die Nationalelf. Nur Sir Claudio kann sie retten.“
Die italienische Nationalmannschaft steckt in einer Krise. Im Achtelfinale der EM 2024 schieden sie gegen die Schweiz aus. Eine Enttäuschung. Schon damals gab es Kritik an Spalletti, Italiens Verbandspräsident Gabriele Gravina hielt jedoch an ihm fest. Für die letzten beiden Weltmeisterschaften qualifizierten sie sich nicht mal.
Absolutes Traumtor!: Italien-Legende trifft vom Mittelpunkt
In die Playoffs der WM-Qualifikation zu müssen wäre ein Desaster. Ranieri soll das abwenden. Der Italiener bringt viel Erfahrung mit: Englischer Meister (2016 mit Leicester), spanischer Pokalsieger (1999 mit Valencia), italienischer Pokalsieger (1996 mit Florenz) und zahlreiche weiter Titel.
Jetzt soll er Italien zum Erfolg führen. Im September spielt Italien gegen Estland (5.9.) und Israel (8.9.).
