Der Grund: Ein „disqualifizierendes Foul, ein technisches Foul und Handlungen, die Gewalt oder Provokation auslösen“, so „Baloncesto Superior Nacional“.

Mehrere Videos des Vorfalls verbreiteten sich rasant im Netz, die zeigen, dass der Basketbaler am Spielfeldrand mit einem Fan in Streit geriet. Erst nur verbal, dann näherte sich Cousins dem Zuschauer und griff sich in den Schritt. Als der Mann die Hände des Sportlers wegschlug, griffen Teamkollegen ein und zogen Cousins weg.
Als der daraufhin vom Platz flog, eskalierte die Situation: Auf dem Weg in die Kabine bewarfen ihn Fans mit Getränken. Der Ex-NBA-Profi verlor die Beherrschung und wollte auf die Fans losgehen, wurde aber von Sicherheitsleuten daran gehindert.
In der NBA war Cousins ein Star: Er erzielte 19,6 Punkte im Schnitt, holte 10,2 Rebounds pro Spiel, war viermal All-Star und zweimal im All-NBA-Team.
