The collegiate athletics world is mourning the unexpected death of former University of Alabama track and field standout Eliud Kipsang.
The 28-year-old athlete, known for his exceptional middle-distance running achievements and leadership, passed away on Monday after being rushed to the hospital following a sudden health emergency.
Kipsang, who hails from Kenya, earned national recognition during his NCAA career, most notably being named the 2021 SEC Cross Country Runner of the Year. He was also a two-time SEC Indoor Champion in the mile and made a name for himself as one of the fastest collegiate runners in the nation.
According to reports, Kipsang suffered a medical episode that required immediate hospitalization.
Despite urgent medical care, he tragically died shortly after arriving at the facility. Authorities have not released an official cause of death, but initial accounts suggest that he may have suffered a cardiac event.
