Deion Sanders, one of the most iconic athletes of American sports and the current head coach of the Colorado Buffaloes, is continuing to learn a new role as the 57-year-old studies up on what it’s like to be a grandfather.
Amid his ongoing health recovery, Coach Prime has taken time away from football to be with his family, particularly his infant grandson, Snow, who is the son of his only daughter, Deiondra.
Shilo Sanders reveals a secret about Deion and Shedeur Sanders when it comes to a particular sport
The NFL Hall of Famer, who won two Super Bowls and also played professional baseball in the MLB with the New York Yankees, shared a series of intimate family moments on Instagram on June 13 as he smiles next to Deiondra whilst the infant enjoys a bath in the sink.
“Snow’s face says it all! @deiondrasanders God is so good,” Sanders wrote in the caption, showing himself alongside Deiondra in the photo too, who delivered Snow on August 9, 2024.
Though Deion is currently away from Colorado due to another undisclosed health issue, reports indicate he is “doing good” and moments like this only support that notion.
While the exact cause of his absence remains unclear, Sanders has promised to share the details with the public soon. For now, there is no official timeline for his return to the team.
Colorado close in on talented recruit
Even in Sanders‘ absence, his impact on the Buffaloes‘ football program remains significant. Since taking the reins in Boulder, Coach Prime has rapidly transformed the team into a recruiting powerhouse, bringing in some of the highest-rated players in program history.
Colorado is one of three finalists in the race to sign a four-star offensive lineman named Deacon Schmitt, a local standout from Windsor, Colorado, who stands at an imposing 6-foot-5 and 320 pounds, is widely regarded for his mobility, footwork, and sheer dominance on the line of scrimmage.
According to On3’s Hayes Fawcett, Schmitt is deciding between Colorado, Oklahoma, and Alabama. His visit to Boulder took place on May 2, the first of the three visits, with trips to Alabama on May 30 and Oklahoma on June 6 following later.
His decision, set for June 28, is a pivotal moment for Colorado’s recruitment campaign. Securing his commitment could add another cornerstone to the offensive line, a key area of focus for Sanders as he looks to solidify the team’s physical identity.
The Buffaloes open their season on August 29 at home against Georgia Tech at Folsom Field in Colorado, and adding elite talent like Schmitt could be critical in turning postseason hopes into championship contention.
The program is aiming to improve on last season’s 9-4 (7-2 Big 12) record, which ended in disappointment with a 36-14 loss to BYU in the Alamo Bowl.
