Vladislav Blanuta pronásledoval dlouhý odkop. Vysoko napadal rozehrávku španělského stopera Mosquery a při pokusu zablokovat přihrávku mu tvrdě sešlápl kotník.
Rozhodčí neváhal a okamžitě ukázal červenou kartu. „Jasné vyloučení,“ souhlasil španělský deník Marca.
Za necelou minutu vyrovnal Jauregizar, o čtyři minuty později skóroval Roberto Fernández. Z 0:1 bylo rázem 2:1 pro Španělsko – rumunský sen se rozplynul.
Blanuta si vyslechl tvrdou a zaslouženou kritiku. Však byl na hřišti jen sedm minut…
„Zbytečný, nepochopitelný faul, který tým připravil o historický výsledek,“ napsali v deníku Adevarul.
Zajímavá je však Blanutova spojitost s českým fotbalem.
Narodil se v Moldávii, ale fotbalově začínal po přestěhování v Česku. Nejprve působil v mládeži Vyšehradu a brzy poté oblékl sešívaný dres. Ve Slavii Praha strávil jednu sezonu, než se vrátil do Moldávie, kde nastupoval za Petrocub Hincesti.
Jeho profesionální dráha poté pokračovala v několika klubech – mimo jiné v Itálii a ve Švýcarsku. V současnosti hraje za Universitatea Kluž, která v uplynulé sezoně obsadila čtvrté místo v rumunské lize.
Jedno je ale jisté. Rumunská jednadvacítka sahala po historickém úspěchu. Před závěrečným zápasem se Slovenskem si mohla vybojovat reálnou šanci na postup ze skupiny. Blanutův naprosto zbytečný faul však všechny naděje potopil.
