Sevilla have appointed Matias Almeyda as their new head coach.
The 51-year-old Argentinian, who played for the Spanish club in the 1996-97 season, is their eighth head coach since the start of 2022-23 and is the permanent successor to Javier Garcia Pimienta, who was dismissed in April.
Almeyda has signed a three-year deal at Sevilla, who finished the 2024-25 La Liga season in 17th, just one point and one place above the relegation zone. Their 12th-place finish the campaign prior had been their lowest since relegation in 2000.

Sevilla have been regulars in the Champions League and Europa League in the last decade – having won the most Europa Leagues (7) in the competition’s history – but are now entering their second successive season without European football.
The Argentinian’s coaching career has spanned 14 years, encompassing spells at River Plate, Banfield, Guadalajara, San Jose Earthquakes and AEK Athens.

Almeyda, who played 40 times at international level for Argentina, led AEK Athens to the Greek league and cup double in the 2022-23 season, but left the club in May after a second-place league finish, seven points behind champions Olympiacos.
A former defensive midfielder, Almeyda’s playing career included spells at Lazio, Parma and Inter Milan.

Čtyřiadvacetiletý Macháč v květnu kvůli zdravotním problémům nedohrál své úvodní zápasy v Ženevě a na Roland Garros a původně nechtěl před Wimbledonem na žádném přípravném turnaji startovat. Po odpočinku se ale nakonec rozhodl otestovat formu na trávě v Halle.Proti De Jongovi, který se do hlavní soutěže dostal až jako šťastný poražený z kvalifikace po odstoupení Huberta Hurkacze, získal vyrovnaný první set za 51 minut. Ve druhém ale Macháč více chyboval, dvakrát přišel o podání a musel do třetí sady.
