It was a day to remember for Gage Wood, who accomplished a feat not seen since 1960. It was a performance for ages; Wood threw a historic game in the Men’s College World Series (MCWS). He held Murray State hitless, etching his name into college baseball history 65 years after the last no-hitter in the MCWS.
Wood joined the pantheon of college baseball legends to join Jim Ehrler of Texas in 1950 and Jim Wixson from Oklahoma State in 1960, as the only players in NCAA history to throw a game without any hits for the rival team. The player from Arkansas stole all the spotlights in the triumph of his team, 3-0 against Murray State.

Wood Gage, almost a perfect game
We are not dreaming, it is not a fable what happened on the NCAA College World Series, it is true that the 22-year-old pitcher achieved almost a perfect game. The Arkansas baseball player has an impressive mark of 19 strikeouts in 119 pitches.
It was 7 perfect innings where the people were amazed by the performance of Wood; everything he threw was a strike. But there was a small stain in the game, in the 8th inning, he hit Murray State’s Dom Decker with a pitch, the batter of Murray State, with the ball. He could recover and record five more strikeouts, to keep with his streak.
Wood was near another record at the Men’s College World Series of more strikes in a game. With his 19 strikeouts, he stayed behind the mark of Steve Arlin, who made 20 strikeouts in a game in 1965 with Ohio State.
Patrick Mahomes is amazed by Wood’s performance
It’s worth noting that Patrick Mahomes has deep ties to baseball. His father, Pat Mahomes, was a Major League pitcher who enjoyed a successful career from 1992 to 2003. In addition to this, let’s remember that the Kansas City Chiefs QB also played baseball at the collegiate level before he opted to pursue his dream of becoming a professional football player.
Nevertheless, Mahomes has always been a huge fan of Baseball, following the sport even at the collegiate level. In a post on X, the QB of the Chiefs reacts with exploding heads in a sign of amazement at the performance of Gage.
