Sogar der dreimalige Tour-de-France-Sieger Tadej Pogacar (26) hat schon Respekt vor Florian Lipowitz (24). Bei der Dauphiné-Rundfahrt, der Generalprobe für die Tour, riss der Deutsche während der dritten Etappe mit einer zwölfköpfigen Gruppe aus. Kurze Zeit später nahm der Slowene mit seinem Team die Verfolgung auf. „Lipowitz ist gefährlich. Einem Fahrer wie ihm darf man nicht zu viel Vorsprung geben“, begründete Pogacar später. Im Ziel hatte er trotzdem eine knappe Minute Rückstand auf Lipowitz.

Mit Gesamtplatz 3 empfahl sich Lipowitz für einen Startplatz bei der am 5. Juli beginnenden Tour de France. „Für mich würde ein Traum in Erfüllung gehen“, sagt er. Nächste Woche entscheidet das Red-Bull-Bora-hansgrohe-Team. Seine Chancen stehen gut. „Dass Florian sich in Richtung Weltklasse entwickelt, hat diese Woche gezeigt“, sagt Teamchef Ralph Denk (51).
Lipowitz ist die neue deutsche Rundfahrt-Hoffnung. Dabei war der Schwabe aus Laichingen bis vor fünf Jahren noch Biathlet. Er ging auf das Ski-Gymnasium im österreichischen Stams und gehörte dem deutschen Nationalkader an. Schon damals trainierte er im Sommer gelegentlich auf dem Rennrad. Nach einem Kreuzbandriss war das Radfahren eine Zeit lang der einzige Sport, der möglich war. Aus Spaß startete Lipowitz bei einigen Radmarathons und gewann prompt die Rennen im Schweizer Engadin und in Imst (Österreich). Lipowitz fühlte sich so wohl im Sattel, dass er mit 20 die Sportart wechselte. Drei Jahre fuhr er für das kleine Radteam Tirol KTM, 2023 wechselte er zu Bora-hansgrohe (inzwischen Red-Bull-Bora-hansgrohe). Trainingswissenschaftler Dan Lorang (45), der schon Ironman-Sieger Jan Frodeno (43) betreute, war so angetan von seinen Leistungsdaten, dass er Lipowitz dem führenden deutschen Radteam empfahl.
[–>Im vergangenen Jahr schaffte Lipowitz, dessen zwei Jahre älterer Bruder Philipp (26) immer noch Biathlet ist und dem DSV-Kader angehört, den Durchbruch. Bei der Romandie-Rundfahrt belegte er Platz 3, bei der Vuelta – trotz Helferdiensten für seinen Kapitän Primoz Roglic – Platz 7. So gut fuhr seit Jan Ullrich (51) bei seinem Sieg 1999 kein Deutscher mehr bei der Spanien-Rundfahrt.
In diesem Jahr knüpfte Lipowitz, der erstmals als Kapitän fahren durfte, an seine Topleistungen an: Platz 2 bei der Rundfahrt Paris–Nizza, Platz 4 bei der Baskenland-Rundfahrt, nun Platz 3 bei der Dauphiné.
„Für mich kommen diese guten Ergebnisse überraschend“, sagt Lipowitz. „Im vergangenen Jahr habe ich einen riesengroßen Sprung gemacht. Ich kann Rennen aktiv mitgestalten und rolle nicht nur in der Gruppe mit. Das ist schön zu sehen.“
Im Team setzen sie auf „Lipo“. „Er hat einen großen Motor und eine enorme Zähigkeit“, sagt der Sportliche Leiter Rolf Aldag (56). „Er ist nicht der Explosivste, kann aber dauerhaft über seine Schmerzgrenze gehen und seine Konkurrenten zermürben. Er ist in der Weltspitze angekommen. Wenn er sich seine Lockerheit bewahrt, kann er ein ganz Großer werden.“
Lipowitz hat ein klares Ziel: „Eines Tages möchte ich bei einer der großen Rundfahrten auf dem Podium stehen. Darauf arbeite ich hin.“
