Das erste Gruppenspiel der DBB-Auswahl am Donnerstag in Hamburg gegen Außenseiter Schweden (20 Uhr, Magenta Sport) markiert offiziell das Ende einer langen Leidenszeit, die die hochbegabte Flügelspielerin (27 Länderspiele) sogar ihre Karriere hätte kosten können.

Grund: Bevor das Knie in einem solchen Fall erneut repariert werden kann, müssen die Verankerungsschrauben der ersten OP wieder raus. Erst wenn die alten Bohrlöcher im Knochen zugewachsen sind, kann eine neue Plastik eingesetzt werden! Ein Prozess, der Monate dauert.

Darum entschied sich Bessoir für einen ungewöhnlichen Weg – und verzichtete für ihren Traum auf eine Operation! „Crazy“ sei das gewesen, gab sie im Gespräch mit der „Süddeutschen Zeitung“ zu.
Doch sie wagte es! Die Tochter von Ex-Profi Bill Bessoir (63/USA) machte drei Monate Pause, beendete in der Zeit ihr Studium an der UCLA (Psychologie & Kommunikationswissenschaften) und fing im Anschluss in Deutschland mit Kraft- und Stabilisations-Training an. Das kleine Wunder: Kurz vor Olympia gaben die Ärzte grünes Licht. Bessoir zog das Turnier ohne Kreuzband durch. Danach legte sie sich erneut unters Messer und begann zum dritten Mal mit von vorne.
„Um ehrlich zu sein, war es fast die härteste Reha“, gesteht die 1,92 Meter große Flügelspielerin gegenüber SPORT BILD. „Das Ziel EM hat auf jeden Fall geholfen. Ich habe mir immer vor Augen geführt, ich spiele die EuroBasket und schaffe es bis dahin. Man weiß, was man tun muss und muss immer weitermachen. Emotionen sind da zweitrangig.“

Ende Mai gab Bessoir ausgerechnet im Test gegen Tschechien ihr Comeback. Ironie des Schicksals: In dem Spiel riss sich DBB-Kapitänin Marie Gülich das Kreuzband! „Es war fast ein bisschen absurd“, sagt Bessoir. „Marie ist nicht nur ein guter Team-Mate, sondern auch eine gute Freundin. Man wünscht das niemandem. Aber es gehört leider zum Sport dazu. Ich weiß, dass sie stärker denn je zurückkommen wird.“
Genau wie sie selbst! In der EM-Vorbereitung unterschrieb Bessoir für kommende Saison einen Vertrag beim spanischen Erstligisten Lointek Gernika Bizkaia. Doch erst mal gilt ihre ganze Konzentration der EM. Bessoir: „Das bedeutet mir super viel. Durch so eine Verletzung bekommt man einfach noch mal einen ganz anderen Blickwinkel auf das Spiel.“
