Quarterback Dak Prescott once again took the lead this offseason, organizing his annual group workout for the Dallas Cowboys‘ skill-position players.
With Cowboys training camp still a month away, Prescott brought together receivers, tight ends, and running backs.
This also included fullback Hunter Luepke, tight end Luke Schoonmaker, and fellow quarterback Will Grier for a preseason throw session aimed at sharpening timing, building camaraderie, and pushing each other toward peak readiness.
The workout took place recently at the team’s practice facility, with Prescott guiding route-running drills, timing-rep sessions, and red-zone work alongside top young talent.
Participants included wideouts like Jalen Brooks, Jalen Tolbert, Brevyn Spann-Ford, Ryan Flournoy.
Prescott and backup QB Will Grier alternated snaps, delivering first- and second-read progressions while the receivers worked through a range of route concepts.
“QBs Dak Prescott and Will Grier getting work in with some of the team’s skill players,” noted Brandon Loree on social media, highlighting Brooks, Tolbert, Spann-Ford, and Flournoy.
The practice was captured in an Instagram clip posted on March 27 and has since circulated, showcasing precision passing and good early-season shape for Prescott.
Prescott has used this gathering as a springboard in years past. In 2022, he led teammates on a workout retreat in Miami, calling it “60 percent football, 40 percent bonding”.
That balance between drills and team chemistry is evident in the recent session, where through-route work and competitive 7-on-7s were followed by informal cooldown chats and levity between reps.
Though officially Dallas‘s training camp doesn’t open until July 22, Prescott is intent on maximizing preparation time.
The intensity of this offseason session underscores his leadership, drive, and desire to sharpen team cohesion before the rigors of the regular season begin.
With his return from a hamstring injury last season, every extra rep matters-and this workout provides both structure and momentum.
Preparing for camp: more than just throws
Prescott‘s on-field presence gives younger players an opportunity to embed themselves in the offense. Beyond the route timing and read progressions, these workouts let veterans model detail-oriented habits.
Coming off hamstring surgery in late 2024, Prescott has emphasized steady progress, stating, “I’m feeling good. I’m doing more and more.
The last two weeks have been huge and progressive for me.” He added, “I wouldn’t say I’m running full speed yet. But everything’s on the right track, and I’m excited”.
The workout not only makes physical sense but also sends a wider message: Prescott sees himself as a coachplayer hybrid, elevating the group both on and off the field.
It’s especially valuable for newcomers to the offense, second-year talents like Brooks and Tolbert, and transfers such as McClellan, Benson, and Stewart, who benefit from tracking Prescott‘s decision-making and tempo under live conditions.
