Matthäus: „Ich sage es schon seit längerer Zeit: Woltemade ist einer für den FC Bayern. Und ich finde es richtig, dass Bayern sich um ihn bemüht. Wobei ich 60 Millionen Ablöse zu wenig finde. Wären 80 bis 100 Millionen genannt worden, hätte mich das nicht überrascht. Für Bayern wäre es vielleicht gut, perspektivisch nach vorn zu denken, mit Woltemade als verkappte Neun für die Zeit nach Harry Kane.“

BILD: Käme ein Wechsel zum richtigen Zeitpunkt?
Matthäus: „Anstelle seines Managements würde ich jetzt nicht schon über einen Wechsel zur neuen Saison verhandeln, sondern eher für folgende Saison. Woltemade hat ein Traum-Jahr beim VfB hinter sich. Alles ging sehr schnell. Mit dem Pokalsieg, mit der Nationalmannschaft in der Nations League, jetzt mit dem Erfolg bei der U21. Beim VfB wird er auch nächste Saison viel Spielpraxis bekommen und kann sich in Ruhe noch ein Jahr weiterentwickeln.“

„Wenn Bayern Woltemade jetzt holt, dann muss er auch spielen. Das verändert die Statik ihres Spiels, dann muss Bayern das System umstellen.“

„Woltemade ist keine echte Neun, keine echte Zehn. Er ist auf seine Art ein Thomas-Müller-Verschnitt. Auch bei der U21 spielt er hinter der Spitze, so wie er bei Bayern hinter Kane agieren würde. Dann aber müsste Musiala nach links ausweichen, von dort seine Läufe starten – was für ihn kein Problem ist. Es besteht aber die Gefahr, dass sich in der Mitte alle gegenseitig im Weg stehen, wenn Musiala nach innen zieht, Olise von rechts nach innen zieht, und dort schon Kane und Woltemade sind.“

BILD: Wäre Bayern dann zu offensiv?
„Musiala links, hinter ihm der eher offensiv ausgerichtete Davies, Olise rechts, Kane in der Spitze und Woltemade dahinter: in der Bundesliga kannst du so spielen, international fliegt dir das um die Ohren. Anders als Müller kann Woltemade nicht auf den Flügel ausweichen. Deshalb ist Woltemade auch kein Sané-Ersatz.“
