Randi Mahomes, mother of the Kansas City Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes, has opened up about the challenges and missteps she faced while raising her children-particularly her middle son, Jackson Mahomes in a series of revealing podcast appearances.

The matriarch of the family discussed her efforts to steer Jackson into a sports career, but also of her regrets about pressuring him, and how those experiences inspired her to create a support system for other parents navigating similar paths.

Randi admitted that she once tried to push Jackson into following Patrick‘s athletic trajectory, but it didn’t work for the 25-year-old, who became a social media influencer instead.

“I’ve made mistakes along the way,” Randi told MOMetize Your Passion. “And what I wished I would have known at the time, Jackson, he got offered scholarships in basketball.

“And decided, you know what-he didn’t want to do it. Of course, I tried to push him. But he ended up going the direction where I had to quit pushing him toward it.”

While Patrick‘s rise to football superstardom has captivated fans, yielding three Super Bowl titles and two NFL MVP honors, along with three Super Bowl MVP honors, Jackson‘s journey took a different route.

Despite offers to play college basketball, Jackson turned them down, proving just how different two siblings can actually be, and it was a decision that tested Randi‘s approach to parenting and ultimately reshaped it.

These hard-learned lessons became the foundation for her new venture: the Sports Parent Academy. Part digital guide, and part emotional resource, the program is designed to help parents raise athletic children without sacrificing family stability or personal well-being.

The academy, rooted in Randi‘s Christian faith and lived experience, offers everything from communication tools for tense car rides to budgeting strategies for sports scholarships, but its most critical offering is perspective.

“I had to learn as a parent to back off,” Randi added. “Not push him to continue to go to that college level.

“He has a 9 to 5. February 1 marked one year. I do like to brag he is my only graduate from college. He has one up on Patrick.”

What did Randi Mahomes say about Jackson’s sexual battery case?

Randi reflected on the emotional toll that the past year had taken on her family, especially amid legal troubles involving her middle child, who faced accusations of sexual battery in Kansas City.

Aspen Vaughn, the owner of restaurant, claimed he grabbed a woman by her neck and forcefully kissed her three times, leading to three felony counts of aggravated sexual battery, although they were later dropped.

“We put this past year behind us – fake allegations,” Randi claimed to the Got It From My Momma podcast. “You find out who your friends are when you go through those trials.”

The prosecutors eventually dropped the filing when it emerged that Vaughn would be unwilling to stand as a witness and testify against Jackson. She went on to close her restaurant in August 2024.

She credited the closure to the publicity of the case, admitting to the Kansas City Star that she faced online abuse including death threats and harassment, even vandalism at her business.

Jackson went on to plead guilty to misdemeanor battery and was handed six months’ probation for the offense, which related to claims he shoved a waiter who came into the room where he was with Vaughn.
